Make a Difference in a Student's Life

Join EnCorps' STEMx Tutors program to virtually tutor math to middle school students who are under-performing in Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1.

As a volunteer math tutor, you prepare students for the rigor of high school mathematics and establish the foundational knowledge needed to pursue a college education that prepares students for a career in an increasingly technical world.

EnCorps STEMx Tutors make a significant difference in a student's relationship with math: 82% of students who take part in the program increased their math scores in the 2024-25 academic year!

Choose When You Tutor One Hour, Twice a Week

The STEMx Tutors program is designed for busy professionals like you. As a STEMx Tutor, you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. EnCorps utilizes both small group and 1:1 tutoring.

As a small group tutor, tutoring sessions take place for one hour, at the same time, twice a week between 12:00 - 5:30 p.m. PST. In turn, as a 1:1 tutor, you will determine the day and time of your virtual tutoring sessions with your student

We ask that you commit to tutoring for a minimum of one semester with the option to renew. Many of our tutors have been in the program for four years.

EnCorps Support

EnCorps provides its volunteer tutors with training and support. Your dedicated Program Manager will provide you access to our Google Classroom where you will find a plethora of resources, invite you to online seminars, and offer the option to join our annual Learning Summit where you can network with other tutors as well as STEM professional who are exploring STEM teaching through the EnCorps STEM Teachers program.

Program Eligibility

EnCorps STEMx Tutors must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Have a bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (does not have to be in a STEM field) and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM industry work experience or have an advanced degree in a STEM field
  • Junior or senior in a college-accredited STEM bachelor's program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Hold a professional certificate in a STEM field and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM work experience
  • A current or former credentialed math teacher

All candidates must also be eligible to work in the US and currently live in the US
