Infrastructure Engineer
JobDescription:
TheInfrastructure Engineer is responsible for the management, administration, andoptimization of the Credit Union's virtualization, compute, storage, and hybridcloud infrastructure, with a focus on stability, scalability, security, andmodernization. This role supports a VMware-centric environment transitioning toNutanix hyperconverged infrastructure and hybrid integration with MicrosoftAzure, while maintaining legacy VMware platforms and ensuring infrastructurescales securely and reliably with the Credit Union's growth.
Responsible and Accountable for:
Acts as an owner, guiding technology decisions and efforts that enhance member experience and service reliability.
Responsible for ensuring that members receive unwavering, exceptional service, reflecting the values and commitment of the credit union.
Implement, maintain, and support virtualization and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) platforms, including Nutanix AHV and Dell VxRails.
Support and maintain legacy VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter) during the transition to Nutanix.
Administer Windows Server environments, including system updates, patching, and security hardening.
Perform cluster lifecycle management including upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and health monitoring.
Ensure documentation, change management, and communication standards are followed for all changes impacting infrastructure systems.
Execute VM provisioning, templating, migrations, snapshot management, and performance tuning.
Plan and execute virtual machine migrations from VMware to Nutanix AHV.
Plan and execute virtual machine migrations to and from Microsoft Azure in a hybrid architecture.
Assist with the design, implementation, and optimization of hybrid infrastructure integrating Nutanix platforms with Azure services.
Manage and optimize Azure-hosted virtual machines, storage, and networking integrated with on-premises environments.
Ensure secure connectivity between on-premises infrastructure and Azure, including VPNs and identity integration.
Optimize on-premises and cloud infrastructure resources, including Azure-integrated virtual machines
Develop and maintain system documentation, operational procedures, and infrastructure diagrams.
Implement automation to improve efficiency using scripting or automation tools.
Drive continuous improvement efforts to optimize system performance, reliability, and scalability.
Manage and optimize storage platforms including Nutanix Storage and Pure Storage arrays.
Utilize enterprise monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., SolarWinds) to monitor infrastructure health and performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues that impact uptime, reliability and user experience. Serve as subject matter expert for the enterprise backup and recovery platform, Rubrik, ensuring automated, secure, and recoverable protection across physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
Support and maintain virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments.
Provide Tier 3 escalation support to team members via email, phone, and collaboration tools.
Lead infrastructure projects including implementations, upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh initiatives.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Must be flexible with scheduling to provide after-hours support for system maintenance, outages, and critical issues; this role does not include a formal on-call rotation.
