What is an ICAM?

An ICAM (Identity, Credential, and Access Management) job involves managing and securing user identities, credentials, and access to systems within an organization. Professionals in this role ensure proper authentication, authorization, and identity lifecycle management to protect sensitive data and maintain compliance. ICAM specialists use tools like multi-factor authentication (MFA), role-based access control (RBAC), and identity governance frameworks to enhance cybersecurity. These roles are critical in industries such as government, healthcare, and finance, where data security is a top priority.

What are the typical responsibilities of an ICAM specialist on a daily basis?

ICAM specialists are responsible for managing user identities, provisioning and deprovisioning access, and ensuring secure authentication across systems. On a daily basis, you may review access requests, troubleshoot user access issues, update or audit security policies, and collaborate with IT and compliance teams to implement security enhancements. The role often requires monitoring systems for unusual activity and responding to incidents or requests in a timely manner. You’ll also play a key part in educating employees about best practices in identity security and maintaining detailed records for audit purposes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the ICAM position, and why are they important?

To thrive as an ICAM (Identity, Credential, and Access Management) specialist, you need a solid understanding of cybersecurity principles, directory services, and authentication protocols, often supported by a degree in computer science or related certifications like CISSP or CompTIA Security+. Familiarity with IAM tools such as SailPoint, Okta, or Microsoft Azure Active Directory is typically required, along with experience in automation and scripting. Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills are essential for collaborating across technology teams and ensuring clear documentation. These capabilities are crucial for maintaining robust security frameworks, minimizing unauthorized access, and supporting organizational compliance.

As the primary ICAM expert, you will ensure our solutions align with federal mandates, Zero Trust principles, and enterprise identity frameworks while guiding teams across identity governance, privileged access management, nonhuman identity, federation, and credential lifecycle modernization. This position blends deep technical leadership with forwardleaning client engagement, helping shape federal health agencies' identity strategies and driving the successful pursuit and delivery of ICAM work across the Health Cyber portfolio. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • Experience developing and presenting modern identity modernization strategies to federal health or civilian agencies

  • Knowledge of federal ICAM frameworks, including FICAM, NIST 80063, Zero Trust identity, and credentialing standards

  • Knowledge of modern identity platforms such as SailPoint, CyberArk, Okta, Ping, or Microsoft Entra ID

  • Ability to provide endtoend technical solutioning and subjectmatter expertise for ICAM modernization initiatives, including developing and refining technical approaches, authoring and reviewing proposal responses, collaborating with clients to shape requirements, delivering technical demonstrations, and supporting capture and preRFP activities to advance Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) opportunities

  • Ability to design and solution fullspectrum identity architectures for hybrid, cloud, and onprem federal environments

  • Ability to lead technical discussions, drive modernization strategies, and translate mission requirements into actionable ICAM roadmaps

  • Bachelor's degree in an IT, Cybersecurity, or Computer Information Systems field

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience supporting federal health agencies in cybersecurity or identity modernization efforts

  • Experience integrating ICAM capabilities with Zero Trust security architectures and federal cybersecurity modernization initiatives

  • Experience advising teams on identity risk, governance maturity, and strategic ICAM program development

  • Experience supporting proposal capture activities to prospective federal clients

  • Knowledge of enterprise directory modernization, identity federation patterns, and crossdomain credentialing

  • Ability to create compelling executivelevel identity strategy briefs tailored to mission leadership

  • Ability to automate identity governance workflows, provisioning, and compliance reporting

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification

  • ICAM certification, such as Certified Identity Professional (CIDPRO) or Certified Identity Management Professional (CIMP) certification
