Graduate Research & Program Innovation Intern
About the IDEA Institute
The Institute for Innovation, Discovery, and Excellence in Academia (IDEA Institute) serves as ASPPH's hub for advancing innovation, equity, and organizational excellence across academic public health. Through scholarship, educational programming, technology, and strategic partnerships, the Institute provides practical resources that help institutions strengthen teaching, research, leadership, and community engagement.
Position Overview
The IDEA Institute is seeking a motivated graduate student to serve as a Graduate Research & Program Innovation Intern supporting a global initiative focused on transforming academic public health through equity-centered scholarship, innovation, and collaboration.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful educational and professional development experiences through applied learning, mentorship, and participation in projects that complement the intern's academic studies. As an active member of the IDEA Institute team, the intern will have the opportunity to contribute to global initiatives, collaborate with public health leaders, and help translate research into practical resources that support faculty, students, and institutions across the world.
Primary Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Director of the IDEA Institute, the intern will assist with activities supporting ASPPH's Expanding the Reach of Transforming Academia for Equity initiative, funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Research Translation & Scholarly Communications
  • Assist with the development and coordination of the Transforming Academia for Equity special supplement in Frontiers in Public Health.
  • Assist with literature reviews, manuscript coordination, author communications, and editorial workflows.
  • Assist the ASPPH Health Sciences Librarian in translating research findings into accessible summaries, briefs, toolkits, and educational resources.
  • Support dissemination efforts that broaden the reach of equity-centered scholarship.
Program Innovation & Knowledge Management
  • Assist with the development and curation of evidence-based resources for the AI Resource for Institutional Excellence (ARIE).
  • Identify and organize scholarly and practice-based resources.
  • Support the development of innovative educational materials for the IDEA Institute's learning platforms.
National Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Assist with communications supporting ASPPH leadership's health equity-centered collaborations and partnerships.
  • Assist in preparing agendas, summaries, and follow-up communications for Advisory Committees and Focus Groups, as needed.
Communications & Dissemination
  • Support dissemination through the IDEA Exchange podcast, IDEA eLearn Classroom, newsletters, webinars, website content, and social media.
  • Assist the Director of the IDEA Institute and ASPPH Health Sciences Librarian in developing audience-centered communication materials.
Evaluation & Continuous Learning
  • Assist with project evaluation activities and data collection to support program improvement.
  • Support reporting and continuous improvement activities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an MPH, DrPH, PhD, or related graduate program.
  • Strong interest in academic public health, health equity, higher education, implementation science, or organizational change.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to synthesize research into clear, actionable products.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Experience with generative AI tools for research or educational purposes, podcast production, video editing, Canva, literature reviews, and educational technology is a plus.

Additional Information
  • Position Type: Temporary Part-Time Paid Graduate Internship
  • Duration: Up to 21 months, contingent upon organizational needs.
  • Time Commitment: 10 hours per week.
  • Supervisor: Director, IDEA Institute.
  • Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
  • Work Location: Remote. Applicants must reside in one of ASPPH's approved hiring states: Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, DC, or West Virginia.
  • Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. ASPPH participates in E-Verify to confirm employment eligibility.
