What is a virtual insurance agent?

A Virtual Insurance Agent is a professional who sells and manages insurance policies remotely, typically using online platforms, phone calls, and video conferencing instead of meeting clients in person. They help clients understand their insurance needs, recommend suitable policies, and assist with claims or policy changes. Virtual Insurance Agents can work for insurance companies, brokers, or as independent agents, and their remote approach allows them to serve clients from various locations efficiently. This role requires strong communication skills and a deep understanding of insurance products.

How to become a virtual insurance agent?

To become a virtual insurance agent, you typically need to obtain a state insurance license by completing pre-licensing education and passing a licensing exam. Additionally, developing strong communication skills, familiarity with insurance products, and proficiency with digital communication tools are important for success in a virtual environment.

How do virtual insurance agents typically collaborate with clients and team members in a remote work setting?

Virtual insurance agents primarily interact with clients through phone calls, emails, and video meetings, ensuring personalized service while working remotely. Collaboration with underwriters, claims specialists, and other team members is usually managed via digital platforms like CRM systems, chat tools, and virtual meetings. This remote structure requires strong communication skills and self-discipline, but also offers flexibility and the chance to develop expertise in digital customer service. Regular virtual team check-ins help maintain a supportive environment and keep everyone aligned on goals.

While both roles require licensing, Virtual Insurance emphasizes remote, tech-driven interactions, whereas Insurance Agents often operate in physical locations. The choice depends on your preferred work environment and career focus within the insurance industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual insurance agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Insurance Agent, you need a solid understanding of insurance products, sales experience, and often a state-issued insurance license. Familiarity with digital CRM platforms, quoting tools, and secure communication systems is typically required. Position Overview
The Service Desk Engineer (designated as the Cloud Service Desk Representative in program documents) handles escalated cloud-adjacent and endpoint tickets that require engineering depth rather than Tier 1 resolution. This role serves as the critical bridge between the engineering tier and the end-user-facing service desk, owning the execution and automation of onboarding/offboarding workflows. This is explicitly not a Tier 1 help desk position; it requires a strong technical baseline to independently diagnose complex enrollment failures, authentication errors, and conditional access configuration issues.

  • Engineering Background: Minimum of 6 years specifically performing engineering functions.
  • U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance Required
  • Escalated Troubleshooting: Proven experience resolving escalated, complex issues involving cloud-connected endpoints, including device enrollment failures, authentication errors, and conditional access problems.
  • Cloud Environments: Deep familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID cloud services.
  • Workflow Automation: Experience executing and automating onboarding/offboarding technical checklists.
  • Tools & Systems: Proficiency with ServiceNow (or equivalent ITSM ticketing platforms) for escalated ticket management, SLA tracking, and resolution documentation.
  • Technical Communication: Ability to clearly translate complex technical issues to non-technical users and maintain standard operating procedures/knowledge base articles.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT-related field (waivable for equivalent professional experience).
  • Experience managing and administering Microsoft 365 tenants within a federal or regulated environment subject to strict compliance frameworks.
  • Active Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert or relevant associate-level Microsoft cloud certifications.
  • ITIL Foundation certification or a strong understanding of structured service management frameworks
