Virtual Handyman information

What is a virtual handyman?

Virtual handymen are professionals who provide remote assistance for home maintenance and repair issues through digital platforms. They offer guidance, troubleshooting, and step-by-step instructions for DIY projects, minor repairs, or maintenance tasks via video calls, chat, or phone. While they don't perform physical repairs themselves, virtual handymen help clients diagnose problems, choose the right tools and materials, and complete tasks safely and efficiently. This service is ideal for homeowners seeking expert advice without the need for an in-person visit.

How does a virtual handyman typically collaborate with clients and on-site technicians to resolve issues remotely?

As a Virtual Handyman, you'll regularly work with clients via video calls, chat, or phone to diagnose and guide them through basic repairs or maintenance tasks. For more complex issues that require physical intervention, you'll coordinate with on-site technicians by providing them with detailed instructions or troubleshooting steps. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll need to clearly explain technical solutions to clients with varying levels of experience. This collaborative, remote support structure helps ensure issues are resolved efficiently while minimizing unnecessary service visits.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual handyman, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Handyman, you need a strong background in general home repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance, often supported by relevant trade certifications or experience. Familiarity with virtual consultation platforms, remote diagnostic tools, and scheduling software is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and patience help in effectively guiding clients through remote repair solutions. These skills are essential for delivering reliable, clear assistance and ensuring client satisfaction in a remote service environment.

About Discovery MSO
Discovery MSO operates a virtual intensive outpatient (IOP) behavioral health program with a treatment center located in Weatherford, TX. We are seeking a reliable, hands-on part-time Handyman to help maintain a safe, clean, and well-functioning facility for our clients, staff, and visitors.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Handyman is responsible for general upkeep, minor repairs, and routine maintenance across the treatment center and its grounds. This role covers a broad range of light-duty trade work — including basic electrical and plumbing tasks — and requires someone comfortable working independently, prioritizing tasks, and maintaining a safe environment in a clinical setting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform light carpentry: repair or install doors, trim, cabinetry, shelving, and drywall patching/painting
  • Complete light electrical work: replace light fixtures, switches, outlets, and bulbs; troubleshoot minor electrical issues (no licensed electrical work)
  • Complete light plumbing work: fix leaky faucets, unclog drains, replace fixtures, and address minor toilet/sink repairs (no licensed plumbing work)
  • Assemble and install furniture, fixtures, and office/clinical equipment as needed
  • Maintain building grounds: basic landscaping, lawn care, trimming, weeding, and seasonal outdoor upkeep
  • Perform routine facility inspections and proactively identify maintenance needs
  • Complete minor HVAC-adjacent tasks (filter changes, vent cleaning) and report larger issues to licensed vendors
  • Handle general repairs: patch walls, fix flooring, repair fencing/gates, and address wear-and-tear items
  • Assist with move-in/move-out tasks, room setup changes, and facility reconfiguration projects
  • Maintain an inventory of basic tools, hardware, and maintenance supplies; flag reorder needs
  • Respond to non-emergency maintenance requests in a timely, professional manner
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment appropriate for a clinical/treatment setting
  • Perform other related maintenance and facility-support tasks as assigned
Qualifications
  • Prior experience in general handyman, maintenance, or facilities work required
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical and plumbing repair (licensure not required for the light-duty scope of this role)
  • Comfortable using standard hand and power tools
  • Basic landscaping/groundskeeping experience preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks including bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Professional demeanor appropriate for a behavioral health treatment environment; ability to interact respectfully with clients and staff
  • Must be able to pass a background check, consistent with requirements for work in a licensed treatment facility
Preferred (Not Required)
  • Prior experience working in a healthcare, clinical, or treatment center setting
  • Basic HVAC or appliance repair familiarity
  • Own basic hand tools
Discovery MSO is an equal opportunity employer.
