Taylion Six Rivers Academy - Education Specialist: Homeschool and Independent Studies
Reports To: Director of Schools and Director of Homeschool
Candidates should live in Siskiyou, Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, Shasta, or Modoc Counties
Overview
The Education Specialist at Taylion Six Rivers Academy supports a diverse caseload of students in both Homeschool and Independent Study programs. This educator provides personalized, standards-aligned instruction, academic guidance, and compliance oversight within a flexible learning environment. While the majority of the caseload consists of homeschool students, the Education Specialist must be fully prepared to support Independent Study learners as needed. The role requires strong communication, organization, and instructional leadership to ensure student success.
Instructional Support and Academic Guidance
  • Develop individualized learning plans aligned with California state standards and student needs
  • Conduct biweekly Learning Period meetings to review progress and adjust instruction
  • Provide academic support through virtual synchronous instruction and in-person check-ins
  • Deliver direct instruction using approved curriculum and digital platforms
  • Meet with Independent Study students during scheduled appointments for lessons, feedback, and academic support
  • Assign, evaluate, and monitor coursework using SIS data, Credit Evaluation Forms, and platform diagnostics
  • Support parents as primary instructors in the homeschool model by modeling effective teaching strategies
  • Prepare students for state assessments including SBAC, CAST, and ELPAC
  • Ensure TK through 8th grade students complete five core subjects per semester with consistent progress monitoring
  • Implement academic interventions for students who need additional support

Compliance and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records including Learning Logs, Engagement Logs, AWRs, attendance, and work samples
  • Upload and label student work samples in SIS for audit readiness
  • Track student progress using benchmark assessments and diagnostic tools such as Exact Path
  • Submit required documentation each Learning Period and at semester end
  • Follow SARB procedures for truancy and maintain communication logs in SIS
  • Participate in IEP meetings and ensure accommodations are implemented across both Homeschool and Independent Study settings
  • Proctor state-mandated assessments and support test readiness
  • Ensure compliance with California Independent Study requirements and Taylion policies

Family and Community Engagement
  • Serve as the primary liaison for homeschool families during school hours
  • Host onboarding meetings and present Welcome Letters outlining expectations and communication norms
  • Maintain consistent communication through Remind, Gmail, Google Meet, and Google Chat
  • Organize and attend homeschool events, field trips, and quarterly in-person meetings
  • Support and participate in school clubs, promotional events, and community outreach
  • Represent Taylion at a minimum of two community events annually
  • Guide families through curriculum options, instructional resources, and school policies

Collaboration and Professional Development
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and Friday professional development sessions
  • Complete required training modules, compliance videos, and trainings
  • Collaborate with counselors, facilitators, educational representatives, and administrators to support student success
  • Contribute to WASC committees and school improvement initiatives
  • Maintain internal communication through Gmail and Google Chat
