Job description

Experienced Commercial Electrical Leadman

Design Electric, Inc.
Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $30.00-$34.00 per hour, based on verified experience, leadership capabilities, licensing, and qualifications

Ready to Take the Next Step in Leadership?

You know the electrical trade, other electricians already look to you for direction, and you are ready for more responsibility. Design Electric is looking for an experienced Commercial Electrical Leadman who can perform high-quality electrical work while helping lead a small field crew. This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrician who is ready to strengthen their leadership skills and continue progressing toward a Foreman position. Design Electric has served Virginia for more than 40 years. As a 100% employee-owned company, our employees do more than work here. They share in the success they help create.

Experience Required

This position requires at least five years of verifiable commercial and/or industrial electrical experience, along with demonstrated experience directing daily work or leading a small crew.

This is not an entry-level or apprentice position. Applicants must have hands-on commercial or industrial electrical experience and be prepared to discuss the projects, installations, and team members they have helped lead.

What You Will Do

As an Electrical Leadman, you will work closely with a Foreman or Superintendent to coordinate daily work, lead a crew of up to four electricians and helpers, and complete safe, code-compliant electrical installations.

This is a hands-on leadership role. You will work alongside your crew while helping keep the team organized, productive, and focused on project expectations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and directing a crew of up to four electricians, apprentices, and helpers
  • Assigning daily tasks and communicating work expectations
  • Performing hands-on commercial and industrial electrical installations
  • Bending and installing conduit based on drawings, specifications, and code requirements
  • Pulling, routing, and terminating wire and cable
  • Installing and testing electrical systems, fixtures, devices, and equipment
  • Reading and working from blueprints, drawings, specifications, and project documents
  • Helping plan conduit routes, wire pulls, material needs, and daily workflow
  • Troubleshooting electrical problems and helping the crew resolve field issues
  • Monitoring the quality and completion of assigned work
  • Reinforcing company safety procedures and safe work practices
  • Coordinating work with supervisors and other trades
  • Communicating manpower, material, and jobsite needs to the Foreman or Superintendent
  • Mentoring apprentices and less-experienced electricians
  • Maintaining a safe, clean, organized, and productive work area
What We Are Looking For

Qualified candidates should have:

  • At least five years of verifiable commercial and/or industrial electrical experience
  • Demonstrated experience directing daily work or leading a small electrical crew
  • Strong skills in conduit bending, wire installation, terminations, and electrical equipment installation
  • The ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and safe work practices
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • The ability to organize daily manpower, materials, and work activities
  • Clear, respectful communication and a collaborative leadership style
  • Dependable attendance and a commitment to quality workmanship
  • Authorization to work in the United States

A current Journeyman Electrician license is preferred but not required.

What Success Looks Like

A successful Design Electric Leadman:

  • Leads by example and works alongside the crew
  • Clearly communicates the day's priorities
  • Keeps a small team productive and organized
  • Identifies questions and problems before they cause delays
  • Maintains high standards for safety and workmanship
  • Uses labor and materials responsibly
  • Helps less-experienced employees improve
  • Is prepared to grow into greater field leadership responsibilities
Why Join Design Electric?

At Design Electric, you are joining an established company that values Safety, Collaboration, Innovation, being Humble but Confident, and Getting It Done.

Our benefits include:

  • Competitive pay of $30.00-$34.00 per hour
  • Employee Stock Ownership Program, making you an employee-owner
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with a 25% company match
  • Health Savings Account
  • Cost-saving prescription program
  • 24/7 virtual doctor visits
  • Company nurse advocate
  • Free orthopedic and telemedicine care
  • Paid time off and sick leave
  • Seven paid holidays
  • Bonus and gainsharing opportunities
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Opportunities to develop your leadership skills and advance toward a Foreman role
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to perform the essential functions of commercial and industrial electrical work safely. This may include standing, walking, climbing, reaching, bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, using tools and equipment, and working from ladders or scaffolding in varying jobsite conditions.

Reasonable accommodations may be provided for qualified individuals with disabilities.

If you are an experienced commercial or industrial electrician who is already helping others succeed and is ready to take the next step in leadership, we would like to hear from you.
