Digital Content Editor

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking a collaborative team player with strong writing and editing skills and experience working with authors, preferably focusing on translating complex medical and policy information into clear, engaging, and accessible content. This role will support and implement content strategies for pediatrician and parent audiences, including writing, editing, and managing digital content for AAP websites and other digital platforms; collaborate with internal teams and external program partners to implement grant and other externally funded activities; and deliver high-quality, mission-driven content that advances public health goals.

Reporting to the Senior Managing Editor, some tasks will include:

  1. Write, edit, and review new and updated digital content published on AAP websites and other digital platforms. Proofread and copyedit content to ensure alignment with website/platform style guidelines as well as clarity, accuracy, accessibility, and engagement.
  2. Collaborate on the development of web content and other project deliverables for externally funded campaigns and initiatives.
  3. Work with editorial leadership and implement search engine optimization (SEO/GEO) best practices to optimize content and increase discoverability.
  4. Identify subject matter experts and technical reviewers, route materials, and incorporate changes into new and revised content as directed.
  5. Implement editorial strategies and planning that follow established editorial workflow process.
  6. Maintain editorial calendars, image galleries, and other lists and databases necessary for the ongoing cross-collaboration and functionality of the websites.
  7. Monitor grant-related site/platform traffic and performance using appropriate analytics and tools and generate reports as needed on content reach and impact.
  8. Attend team meetings, editorial meetings, and conferences as assigned for feedback on content and web innovations that serve to improve AAP websites.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, digital media or related field or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
  2. At least three years’ related experience in digital content development required, including working with authors, writing and editing, preferably with an emphasis on health information. Experience with digital publishing processes and technologies and digital communications required. Experience working with medical professional and translating complex medical and policy information into clear, engaging, and accessible content for both professional and public audiences preferred.
  3. Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, organizational, communication, and project management skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, the ability to learn and apply new technologies including the use of AI; familiarity with content management systems (CMS), content and user experience strategy, SEO/GEO, Google Analytics, document collaboration platforms (e.g. SharePoint), and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Teams) preferred. Must be detail oriented, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously within strict deadlines, think creatively, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and respected. Some travel and evening/weekend work required.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $70,368.96 - $74,278.36. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
