Executive Leadership Position

Hospice of South Texas (HOST) is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to serve as the organization's principal day-to-day financial leader. This executive-level position plays a critical role in maintaining the financial strength, accountability, and long-term sustainability of our organization while supporting our mission of providing compassionate hospice care to the communities we serve.

The Director of Finance reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and works collaboratively with the Interim Chief Financial Officer and executive leadership to provide meaningful financial insight, strengthen financial operations, and support sound organizational decision-making.

As Director of Finance, you will provide leadership and oversight for HOST's financial operations, including:

• Oversee accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and reconciliations.
• Develop financial projections, analyses, and practical management tools to support executive and Board-level decision-making.
• Establish and maintain strong internal financial controls to safeguard organizational assets and promote financial accuracy and compliance.
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, reserve funds, and other financial processes supporting organizational liquidity and sustainability.
• Oversee medical billing and reimbursement processes across Medicare, Medicaid, and private payors.
• Monitor revenue-cycle performance, including accounts receivable, billing accuracy, reimbursement timing, and denials.
• Prepare for and manage external financial and reimbursement audits and reviews, including CMS, Medicaid, TPE, RAC, and UPIC reviews.
• Manage Agency cost reports, tax filings, regulatory financial filings, and other required financial reporting.
• Supervise and provide accountability for finance staff responsible for AP/AR, payroll, general ledger, and related functions.
• Conduct financial and cost-benefit analyses related to employee benefits and annual benefit renewals.
• Provide timely financial reporting and analysis to executive leadership, the Finance Committee, and the Board.
• Evaluate financial workflows, systems, reporting, and cost drivers to identify opportunities for greater efficiency and financial discipline.
• Identify and escalate significant financial risks, variances, cash-flow concerns, reimbursement issues, internal-control deficiencies, and audit findings.
• Participate in organizational strategic planning, financial risk management, and emergency preparedness.
• Serve as a key financial point of contact for auditors, banks, vendors, government agencies, and other external partners.
• Support the implementation and optimization of financial, payroll, billing, and EHR-related systems.
• Serve as the organization's 401(k) Plan Administrator, supporting appropriate fiduciary oversight, compliance, administration, and reporting.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.

• CPA preferred.

Experience

• Six or more years of progressive financial management experience.

• Experience in a nonprofit hospice or healthcare environment is strongly preferred.

• Experience with Medicare/Medicaid billing, CMS audits, financial reporting, accounting operations, and revenue-cycle management preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, applicable laws, and financial best practices.

• Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and data analysis.

• Ability to lead finance operations and effectively supervise and develop staff.

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable information for executive leadership and the Board.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and leadership levels.

• Ability to work effectively in a deadline-driven healthcare environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
