Job description

The Interior Design Specialist partners with customers and their families, both in-store and in their homes, to create personalized living spaces through professional sales, design guidance, and decorating services. In this role, the Interior Design Specialist builds foundational expertise in space planning, product knowledge, and client consultation, with a clear path toward growth as an Interior Design Professional.

As they develop, the Interior Design Specialist will progressively take on more advanced design responsibilities, delivering comprehensive home furnishing solutionsincluding furniture, mattresses, accessories, and home dcorto meet each clients unique vision and lifestyle needs. Decorating Studio packages and services are leveraged to provide tailored, cohesive design solutions, ensuring a seamless and elevated customer experience.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Successfully completes all core training required for the Sales Associate role; demonstrates competencies required to excel in the Sales Associate role.
  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly, approachable manner to create a positive in-store experience.
  • Help customers explore furniture and dcor options that fit their style and budget, with support from team members.
  • Learn to ask basic questions to understand customer needs and suggest simple solutions.
  • Support the sales process, including assisting with purchases, financing options, and delivery coordination.
  • Participate in follow-up communication with customers (calls, texts, or emails) to build relationships and provide support.
  • Assist with store operations such as tagging merchandise, organizing displays, and preparing for sales events.
  • Shadow and support team members during in-home or virtual consultations as needed.
  • Learn to use company tools and systems, including tablets, POS systems, and basic design software.
  • Attend training sessions and team meetings to build knowledge of products, promotions, and customer service skills.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:

  • High-energy, entrepreneurial and team-oriented people person.
  • Excellent and effective communication and listening skills.
  • Willingness to learn and the ability to be trained/coached.
  • Customer service experience (face-to-face preferred).
  • Previous Interior Design experience and/or education strongly preferred.
  • Any sales, upselling, and/or marketing experience and/or education preferred.
  • Experience and/or proficiency with computer-based systems and technologies; i.e. Windows, Microsoft Office, POS Systems, digital/mobile devices, etc.
  • Ability to meet physical demands and requirements of the position.
  • Education: Associates and/or Bachelors Degree in Interior Design and/or ASID/ISD Certified.
  • Flexibility/availability to work retail hours/schedule: includes days, evenings, weekends, holidays and/or special events.

Schedule:

  • Full-Time; 40-45 hours per week.
  • Retail hours and scheduling required, including days, evenings, weekends, holidays and/or special events. Flexible scheduling options available.

Working Environment:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and reach regularly.
  • Ability to climb stairs occasionally, dependent upon location.
  • Ability to apply effective communication skills, reading, verbal and written, to interact with customers, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate relevant equipment and observe details to complete assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 15 lbs.
  • Ability to travel/commute to different store and customer home/client site locations.
