Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring a minimum of 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work on a 32-bed Medical/Surgical unit (4W) within a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma facility
- Patient population includes stroke, respiratory illnesses (flu, pneumonia, COVID), renal failure, peritoneal dialysis, wound care, and other medical/surgical diagnoses
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5–6, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–8
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend
- Low census call is possible; night shift nurses may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating is required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities) per regional needs — candidates who are not willing to float to all facilities in this region should not apply
- EMR is Epic
- Unit utilizes virtual nursing (VNO) with 10 cameras; virtual RNs can serve as a second witness for certain medications, monitor high-acuity patients, and assist with admissions and discharges
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Core skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation, experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone), wound care, drain/tube management, PIV starts, and central line management
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs (ADLs, mobility, feeding), charge nurse (may or may not carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7), as well as telemetry monitoring technicians — no HUC on unit
- Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scheduling is done on a 6-week cycle
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Navy scrubs required
