Overview

Paramedic, Full Time Nights

Piedmont Eastside Medical Center- Emergency Dept

  • We are looking for positive, self-motivated, engaged and excited for growth individuals to join our team
  • 38 bed Emergency Department that sees on average 160 patients a day that present with various acuities.
  • We are a primary Stroke and Stemi receiving facility that is able to intervene and administer thrombolytics.
  • Two helicopter pads on campus for utilization
  • We have 5 PODs in our department, depending on acuity, is where the patient will be assigned
  • Behavioral Health Pod
  • We have Charge nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians and Unit Secretaries who work in close collaboration with the ED Providers to provide exceptional care
  • All staff members must have a BLS to work in this unit. RN's must have ACLS and PALS required. NIH highly preferred, must obtain within allotted timeframe.
Responsibilities

The Paramedic, under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse and/or Physician is responsible for facilitating age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and their families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology. The Paramedic participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of health care services and task. The role of the Paramedic Nurse Extender also, includes patient advocacy, teaching, performance improvement, and the oversight of unlicensed personnel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Must have a working knowledge of intramuscular, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizers, intravenous, and intravenous push medications-effect, side effects, drug to drug interaction and anaphylaxis protocol. Working knowledge of venous blood sampling, and cardiac monitor knowledge.2. Working knowledge of the body's systems to include neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, primary and secondary trauma assessment.3. Must have strong customer service, interpersonal skills and be able to work with a team. Responsible for providing safe patient care with an understanding and awareness of ageappropriate and culturally aware needs. Able to assess a patient's needs and respond to direction by the Professional Registered Nurse and Physician.4. Perform EKG'S5. Perform Foley catheters6. Start IV'S, IO'S & draw blood.7. Transport patients to other departments.8. May be required to monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormal rhythms and changes immediately to Charge Nurse and Nurse KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing. Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to work as a member of a team. Qualifications

Education

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required

Work Experience

  • 1 year of experience as a Paramedic Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support BLS Certification Upon Hire Required and
  • ACLS Upon Hire Required and
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Paramedics new to specialty will complete applicable certifications within 6 months of start date within 180 Days Required
  • LP - Licensed Paramedic Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Georgia and National Registry Preferred
