What is a virtual call center?

A virtual call center is a customer service operation where agents work remotely rather than from a centralized physical location. These agents use internet-based software to handle inbound and outbound calls, as well as other customer interactions like emails or chats. Virtual call centers allow companies to employ staff from different locations, often improving flexibility and reducing overhead costs. They are commonly used in industries such as telecommunications, retail, and technical support.

What are virtual call center jobs?

Virtual call center jobs focus on providing phone service in a variety of fields. While many people associate them with telemarketing and customer service, companies also use virtual call centers for things like setting appointments. In this role, you may help manage inbound and outbound calls, coordinate with other employees to find solutions to customer issues, and provide additional assistance or answer customer questions as needed. Many virtual call centers focus on a specific field. For example, a company may provide financial services or remote healthcare through a virtual call center. Virtual call centers frequently allow you to work from home.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual call center representative, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Call Center Representative, you need excellent verbal communication, active listening, problem-solving skills, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software, call routing systems, and basic computer applications is essential for daily operations. Patience, professionalism, and adaptability help representatives handle diverse customer needs and high-pressure situations. These skills are crucial for delivering effective customer support, resolving issues efficiently, and maintaining a positive brand reputation remotely.

What are some common challenges faced by employees in a virtual call center, and how can they be managed?

One common challenge in a virtual call center is staying focused and motivated while working remotely, often in a home environment with potential distractions. Additionally, communicating effectively with team members and supervisors can be more difficult without face-to-face interaction. To manage these challenges, it's helpful to establish a dedicated, quiet workspace, use reliable communication tools, and participate in regular team meetings. Many companies also offer training and support resources to help employees remain connected and productive.

Job Summary
As a Business Development Representative (BDR) at Steri-Clean The Villages, FL, you will expand our client base and referral network across The Villages and North Central Florida. This is a relationship-driven outside sales role focused on building long-term partnerships with property managers, funeral homes, law enforcement agencies, hospice and senior care providers, restoration contractors, and insurance adjusters.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with exceptional interpersonal skills who can navigate sensitive industries with professionalism and empathy. You will be responsible for generating new business, nurturing existing accounts, and representing the Steri-Clean brand with integrity. This is not a call center or door-to-door retail role.
Business Development Responsibilities
  • Identify, target, and develop new referral relationships with funeral homes, medical examiner staff, law enforcement and fire/EMS, hospice and home health providers, senior living communities, property managers, estate attorneys, fiduciaries, insurance professionals, real estate agents, restoration companies, hospitals, and pest control operators.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual meetings, presentations, and networking events to promote Steri-Clean's services and build brand awareness.
  • Maintain a consistent field cadence: five new contacts and five follow-up touches weekly, a restock and thank-you within 7-10 days, a value touch at 30 days, then quarterly.
  • Manage and grow an existing book of referral accounts through consistent follow-up and service advocacy.
  • Maintain an accurate contact tracker and report weekly on visits, contacts added, leads generated, and jobs booked.
  • Respond promptly to inbound inquiries and convert leads into active accounts.

Territory
This position covers The Villages and North Central Florida, with primary focus on Sumter, Lake, and Marion counties and additional coverage in Citrus and Hernando. Daily local travel is required. As Steri-Clean The Villages continues to expand across North Florida, this territory may grow, and strong performers will have the first opportunity to develop new market areas.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Two or more years of outside sales or business development experience. Restoration, funeral service, senior care, home health, insurance, or property management backgrounds are a strong plus.
  • Valid Florida driver's license, reliable insured vehicle, and clean motor vehicle record.
  • Professional presence and discretion. You will interact with grieving families, sworn officers, funeral directors, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to independently plan and execute a weekly territory route.
  • Ability to pass a background check, MVR check, and pre-employment drug screen.

Preferred:
  • Existing professional relationships in Sumter, Lake, or Marion County.
  • CRM or contact tracking experience.

Working Conditions
This role is approximately 80 percent in the field, with periodic early morning or evening networking events. Steri-Clean performs biohazard remediation including unattended death and decomposition, trauma and crime scene cleanup, hoarding, and animal contamination. This position does not perform cleanup work, but you must be comfortable visiting active job sites and discussing this work with referral partners in professional, clinical terms. PPE is provided and required on site.
Company Overview
Are you looking for a company that values your potential? As one of the nation's largest biohazard and hoarding remediation companies, we are looking for key personnel to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a nationally recognized, and steadily growing company.
At Steri-Clean, we have a strong history, a broad future and a promote-from-within company culture. We are looking for individuals that want to make this a career choice with unlimited potential for advancement. We need solid people that want to grow with us, learn and advance quickly!
