The Role
Develops and evaluates metrology calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
Mechanical engineer degrees and BS in Mathematics or Physics will be considered.
  • Experience thru education or real-life application designing and implementing metrology solutions that address manufacturing quality and schedule challenges.
  • Proficiency with industry leading metrology hardware and software-have the ability to select, configure, and apply industry-standard tools (e.g., CMMs, laser trackers, vision systems, statistical process control software) to real-world shipbuilding problems. (E.g. software would be Spatial Analyzer, PolyWorks, Verisurf, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills-capable of interpreting complex data, diagnosing measurement issues, and developing corrective actions that improve process capability.
  • Effective communication and teamwork-clear, concise communicator who collaborates well across engineering, production, and can convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Continuous learning is a valued asset
