SR. Calibration Technician

Location: Romulus Michigan

Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Hourly)

About the Role

GR Metrology, a Best and Brightest Company, is seeking an experienced Senior Calibration Technician to while continuing to support onsite customer calibrations. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician who excels in precision work, takes ownership of quality systems, and is motivated by building operational excellence from the ground up.

The Senior Calibration Technician will play a key role in establishing lab operations, implementing existing calibration standards, and ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all measurement activities. This position offers the opportunity to combine hands‑on technical expertise with leadership, problem‑solving, and collaboration as the lab is brought fully online.

Essential Functions

Calibration amp; Technical Service

  • Support GR Metrology and on-going readiness of a new laboratory location, including setup, workflow optimization, and adherence to documented standards
  • Perform onsite and in-lab equipment calibrations with limited oversight and generate calibration certificates.
  • Work across assigned measurement disciplines as a technical subject matter expert resource such as temperature, dimensional, force, pressure, mass, and electrical (additional disciplines trained over time).
  • Evaluate non-routine on out-of-tolerance results and recommend corrective actions
  • Prepare for field work by reviewing procedures, specifications, and equipment lists.
  • Accurately document calibration results, asset data, time, and parts usage using company systems.
  • Perform basic setup and installation of plug-and-play distributed products.
  • Maintain company vehicle condition and report maintenance needs promptly.

Customer Interaction amp; Representation

  • Serve as a professional, courteous, and technically confident representative of GR Metrology at customer sites.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding technical findings, compliance considerations, and limitations, during check-in, service, and close-out.
  • Identify opportunities to support customer needs and promote GR Metrology services by delivering reliable, value-added service

Safety, Quality amp; Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures with a strong “no shortcuts” mindset.
  • Report safety incidents or near misses promptly.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and standards are in proper working condition, within calibration, and aligned with company and accreditation requirements
  • Support internal quality reviews, audits, and documentation requirements by providing technical input and corrective action support
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and model best practices for others

Growth amp; Continuous Improvement

  • Take ownership of certification, professional growth, and technical competency within assigned disciplines.
  • Provide informal mentorship or guidance to less experienced technicians as the team grows
  • Contribute ideas for improvement related to lab efficiency, quality, and technical accuracy
  • Demonstrate reliability through consistent attendance, punctuality, sound judgement, and strong work ethic

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience within an accredited Calibration Laboratory performing metrology solutions including temperature, dimensional, force, pressure, mass, and electrical
  • ISO17025
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or on-call as needed.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, walk several miles per shift, bend frequently, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment DOT drug testing and physical
