Job description

The followingย supplemental contract position is open for theย 2026-2027ย school year atย Mansfield Middle School.ย  The successful candidate(s) will be required to complete all pre-employment procedures if not a current employee of the Mansfield City Schools.ย  This supplemental is compensated at 4% of the teacher base salary per the negotiated agreement.

The Spelling Bee Coordinator responsibilities include but are not limited to:ย 

  • Serve as the building contact for the area Spelling Bees, including:
    • Mansfield-Richland County Spelling Bee for Grade 3
    • Mid-Ohio ESC Spelling Bee for grades 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
    • NCOESC Spelling Bee for grades 6, 7, 8
  • Remain in contact with the spelling bee sponsors to receive communications regarding the spelling bee events
  • Hold a grade/building spelling bee to determine building student spelling bee participant(s) following the sponsor's guidelines.ย 
  • Register student speller(s)
  • Coach and guide student speller(s) towards their spelling goals weekly
  • Share a passion for words and spelling with student speller(s)
  • Provide study materials to student speller(s)
  • Prepare student speller(s) to compete in the spelling bees
  • Assist student speller(s) in participating in the virtual and in-person spelling bee
  • Communicate event information including dates, times, rules, and regulations to the district, school, student, and families
  • Attend/Supervise students participating in the area spelling bees, which may include day and evening times
    • Richland County Spelling Bee - Virtual
    • Mid-Ohio ESC Spelling Bee if any building participants qualify -In Person
    • Mansfield Grade 3 Spelling Bee - In Person
    • NCOESC Spelling Bee - In Person
  • Organize additional volunteers as needed
  • Coordinate school transportation for students if needed
  • Promote student participants through the district's social media, webpage, and newsletters

MOESC Spelling Bee Tuesday, November 10, 2026 @ 6:30 PM(Grades 4-8 Qualifiers)

Location: In Person at Mid-Ohio ESC

NCOESC Region 1 Spelling Bee - Wednesday, February 3 at Ontario High School at 6:00PM with a Snow Date of Wednesday, February 10.ย  (Grades 6-8)

Uses approved 2027 SCRIPPS word list / Schools send their 4 top students
