AVP, Consumer Bank Product Owner – Digital API (Synchrony)

Bentonville, AR.

Role Summary/Purpose

Synchrony is building a world‑class Digital Bank with smart savings products and capabilities to help consumers prepare for their futures. The Consumer Bank agile teams bring these products to life through all stages and touchpoints of the customer lifecycle. This role as Consumer Bank Digital API Product Owner will lead the API implementation of new features and enhancements to our consumer bank. The candidate will be an agile‑trained product owner with experience with API teams and strong technical acumen.

We offer flexible work arrangements; you may work remotely, from home, or from one of our offices. Occasional travel to the nearest office may be required for in‑person engagements.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Identify business needs and translate them into business requirements and stories for our API teams, known as the Business Services Layer (BSL).
  • Influence decisions through technical consultation and direction to stakeholders alongside Technical Product Owners.
  • Collaborate with Technical Product Owners to ensure technical implementation meets business requirements and rules.
  • Deep‑dive into complex technical systems.
  • Ensure strong communication and coordination with front‑end developers, teams, and other API consumers.
  • Recommend new technology trends and innovative products/features to the teams.
  • Oversee and lead the end‑to‑end product development lifecycle, including build, test, launch, and adoption.
  • Work with the Agile Development Team and Scrum Master: lead backlog planning and grooming, support release planning.
  • Coordinate and lead user acceptance testing (UAT) for releases.
  • Work with UX partners to create screen prototypes/wireframes, gather feedback, and optimize performance.
  • Partner with key stakeholders (Marketing, IT, Compliance, Credit/Risk, and Operations) to identify and prioritize future features and manage the product backlog.
  • Lead operational functions for the team, including triaging defects, employee education, user inquiries, and SLA issues.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Analytics team to monitor and understand usage patterns online, using tools such as Omniture, GA, and Splunk.
  • Maintain current product and API documentation.
  • Work closely with Consumer Bank Digital Product Owners to create a unified digital customer experience.
  • Participate in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) as our teams are part of a Solution Train.
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or a high school equivalent and 8+ years of experience as a Product Owner within a consumer banking organization.
  • 4+ years of digital product owner experience, including experience in API and/or services management.
  • Ability to work U.S. East Coast hours and must be able to go into a physical hub location on a regular basis.

Eligibility Requirements
  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation, and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process.
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • New hires (Level 4‑7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non‑exempt roles.
  • Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months’ time in position before they can post.
  • All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance expectations).
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future.

Additional Information

Grade/Level: 11

Salary Range: $90,000.00–$155,000.00 USD annual. Eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance. Salaries are adjusted according to the market in CA, NY Metro, and Seattle.
