IMEG is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Co-op in Atlanta, GA, to support the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for the vertical building industry. This co-op role offers hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers and consultants on active projects.
You will assist with design tasks, documentation, coordination across disciplines, and project observations while supporting project budgets, goals, and client expectations. The team supports housing and multifamily plus commercial and retail work, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with design portions of mechanical systems for projects in accordance with code and IMEG standards
  • Assist with researching resources for commercially available equipment
  • Support client relations, maintain the project design notebook, and provide documentation for permanent record files
  • Assist with coordinating design and schedule with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
  • Assist with reviewing project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services as required by the contract services agreement

What You'll Bring
Required Education
  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong interest in design consulting
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and/or Building Information Modeling (BIM) software
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred
  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

  • Design MEP systems for high-profile commercial, mixed-use, multifamily, retail, hospitality, and restaurant projects throughout the Southeast.
  • Work on complex developments involving residential and office space above retail, structured parking, specialty lighting, restaurant exhaust, and flexible tenant systems.
