ABOUT THE ROLE

This position provides support for medical students in the School of Medicine for St. Louis, MO. The duties include, but are not limited to coaching and advising career paths, programs, and future planning for our medical students through graduation.ย 

SUMMARY & PRINCIPLE DUTIES: Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is seeking an Academic Advisor to provide support for medical students on our St. Louis campus.ย  This individual should also maintain regular communication with our other campuses to ensure consistency and compatibility of academic support services across campuses.ย 

The Academic Advisor should possess a graduate degree within medical/health professions programs.

COMPETENCIES:

ย 

To perform the job successfully, the Academic Advisor should demonstrate strong communication, data analysis, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret academic performance indicators and collaborate effectively with faculty, course directors, and Student Affairs.ย  Familiarity with medical education structures, board preparation processes, and accreditation expectations, including LCME standards related to advising and student support, is preferred but not required.ย 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Listed below are the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required for this position, as well as the Physical Demands and Work Environment. Minimum of a terminal degree in higher education: PhD, MD, or DO preferred; EdD with six months of related experience in health education.ย 

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Experience with virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and Teams. Knowledge of Canvas application strongly preferred.

The employee must occasionally lift objects weighing from 10 - 30 pounds and possibly up to 50 pounds. Close vision needed to use computer. Must have distance vision and depth perception for safety purposes.
