What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Virtual Advanced Imaging Cardiologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Advanced Imaging Cardiologist, you need board certification in cardiology, advanced training in cardiac imaging modalities (such as CT, MRI, and echocardiography), and a thorough understanding of cardiovascular diseases. Expertise in interpreting digital imaging platforms, proficiency with telemedicine systems, and familiarity with PACS are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective remote communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure accurate diagnoses, efficient virtual consultations, and optimal patient outcomes in a digital healthcare environment.

What is a Virtual Advanced Imaging Cardiologist?

A Virtual Advanced Imaging Cardiologist is a medical doctor specializing in diagnosing and treating heart conditions using advanced imaging technologies such as CT, MRI, and echocardiography, all performed or interpreted remotely. They collaborate with patients and other healthcare providers via telemedicine platforms, reviewing images and providing expert opinions without needing to be physically present. This role improves access to specialized cardiac care, particularly for patients in remote or underserved areas. Virtual cardiologists maintain the same high standards of accuracy and patient care as traditional, in-person specialists.

How does a Virtual Advanced Imaging Cardiologist typically collaborate with on-site medical teams and referring physicians?

As a Virtual Advanced Imaging Cardiologist, you will work closely with on-site cardiology teams and referring physicians by providing remote interpretations of advanced cardiac imaging studies, such as echocardiograms, CT, and MRI scans. Most collaboration occurs through secure digital platforms, case discussions, and regular multidisciplinary meetings to ensure cohesive patient care. Effective communication skills are essential, as you may be expected to provide timely consults, participate in virtual case conferences, and help develop imaging protocols. This structure enables you to maintain strong professional relationships and contribute meaningfully to patient outcomes, even when working remotely.

Job description

Deliver safe, high-quality MRI care for cardiac and complex patients by monitoring vital signs, managing cardiac rhythms, and supporting patients through advanced imaging procedures.

At SimonMed Imaging, the MRI Cardiac Monitoring Registered Nurse plays a critical clinical role in ensuring patient safety during MRI exams, particularly for pacemaker-dependent and cardiac patients. This role combines advanced cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, and radiology support to ensure safe, seamless imaging experiences.

This is a fast-paced, highly clinical role where critical thinking, technical expertise, and patient advocacy directly impact safety and diagnostic outcomes. If you thrive in high-acuity environments and enjoy working collaboratively with imaging teams, this role offers meaningful clinical impact every day.

What You Bring

Advanced cardiac monitoring expertise: You interpret EKGs, identify arrhythmias, and monitor cardiac activity to ensure patient safety throughout MRI procedures.

MRI safety and clinical judgment: You apply specialized knowledge of MRI safety protocols, particularly for patients with implanted cardiac devices and complex medical conditions.

Strong procedural and IV skills: You start IVs, administer medications as ordered, and manage contrast reactions according to established clinical protocols.

Critical thinking in high-acuity settings: You assess patient condition in real time, respond to emergencies, and make sound clinical decisions in fast-paced environments.

Collaborative care approach: You work closely with technologists, radiologists, and clinical staff to ensure coordinated, efficient, and safe patient care.

Strong documentation and communication skills: You accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient data in EMR systems while maintaining clear communication with care teams.

What You’ll Gain

Direct impact on patient safety: Your expertise ensures high-risk cardiac patients can safely undergo MRI imaging when clinically appropriate.

Advanced imaging nursing experience: Work at the intersection of cardiology, radiology, and outpatient procedural care in a specialized clinical environment.

High collaboration environment: Partner with imaging and clinical teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality patient care.

Skill development in specialized care: Expand your expertise in MRI safety, cardiac monitoring, and outpatient radiology nursing.

Purpose-driven clinical work: Every intervention you make directly supports safe diagnostic imaging and patient outcomes.

You’re a Strong Fit If You Have

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment required
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (acute care, radiology, or outpatient setting preferred)
• Experience with EKG monitoring and IV therapy required
• Additional training in cardiac monitoring, radiology nursing, or IV therapy strongly preferred
• Strong ability to interpret EKGs and cardiac rhythms
• Knowledge of MRI safety protocols, especially for patients with implanted devices
• Strong communication, teamwork, and clinical documentation skills
• Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress or emergency situations

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
