In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) is a leading LGBTQ+ nonprofit organization serving New York's Capital Region. For more than 25 years, we have advanced health equity, anti-violence services, housing stability, youth development, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ Black, Brown, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and dedicated Anti-Violence Services Advocate to join our growing team. This position provides direct support to LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, hate violence, intimate partner violence, and other forms of interpersonal violence.

What You'll Do

As an Anti-Violence Services Advocate, you will:

• Provide trauma-informed crisis intervention and emotional support to survivors.
• Respond to hotline calls, walk-in clients, and crisis situations.
• Conduct individualized safety planning and risk assessments.
• Provide case management and advocacy services.
• Assist survivors with emergency shelter, housing resources, and community referrals.
• Accompany survivors to court, hospitals, law enforcement interviews, and other appointments as needed.
• Connect clients to legal, medical, mental health, financial, and social services.
• Maintain confidential client records and accurate case documentation.
• Enter data into required databases and prepare reports in accordance with grant requirements.
• Facilitate support groups, educational workshops, and community outreach activities.
• Participate in violence prevention initiatives and community awareness events.
• Collaborate with IOOV's housing, health, youth, and community programs to provide comprehensive, wraparound services.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Public Health, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One (1) to two (2) years of experience in victim advocacy, domestic violence, sexual assault services, crisis intervention, case management, or related human services.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis response, safety planning, and survivor advocacy.
• Strong understanding of LGBTQ+ communities and culturally responsive service delivery.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
• Valid New York State driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred

• Bilingual (Spanish/English or another language).
• Experience facilitating support groups or educational workshops.
• Knowledge of New York State victim services, housing resources, and community support systems.
• Experience working with survivors of hate violence, stalking, or human trafficking.

Salary

$49,500–$54,000 annually

Salary is based on experience, education, and qualifications.

Work Schedule & Location
