Industry UsageCommon in tech, digital media, and online platformsWidespread across film, TV, advertising, and digital media

This period also allows both parties to assess if the position aligns with expectations before making long-term commitments.

Job description

TIME is a global media brand built on decades of unparalleled trust and authority. As a brand, we are continually evolving through a period of innovation and transformation, focused on elevated storytelling.

Our core purpose is to tell stories to a global audience across our unique platforms. We are looking for changemakers from all backgrounds and walks-of-life, who embody TIME’s core values as well as our mission of informing, connecting, and engaging the world.

If you’re ready to take your next step with a 100+ year-old startup, read more about this opportunity below. Keep scrolling for additional information about TIME.

The Role:
We are looking for a Social Video Producer who is passionate about visual storytelling and deeply familiar with the ever-evolving social video landscape. This role splits its focus between producing high-quality social-first video for sponsor initiatives and developing daily engagement-driven content across TIME’s platforms. This ideal candidate can execute business-supporting content at a high editorial standard while also helping to build sponsored social-first franchises and repeatable concepts across platforms and editorial verticals.

This person should be able to identify compelling stories and independently produce and edit short-form video content optimized for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and X (formerly Twitter) in a newsroom environment. You should be comfortable juggling multiple projects, collaborating across editorial and revenue teams while staying on top of the news cycle, platform trends, and performance analytics.

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch story ideas and concepts for short-form videos that reflect TIME’s voice and priorities
  • Partner with revenue teams to ideate and execute social video to support sponsored initiatives, as well as TIME events
  • Create and scale engagement-driven series, sellable franchises, and repeatable video formats across editorial programs
  • Research and write social-first scripts that are optimized for platform performance and audience engagement
  • Produce and edit compelling videos in social-first formats for platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok
  • Identify, cut, and optimize clips from existing footage (owned and wire) for social platforms
  • Collaborate closely with social editors, reporters, designers, and other video producers
  • Ensure content is accurate, journalistically sound, and consistent with TIME’s editorial standards
  • Stay current with platform best practices, algorithm changes, and visual trends

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience producing social video content for Instagram Reels and/or TikTok at a media organization or brand
  • Ability to write and structure stories in an engaging, social-first manner, with an understanding of pacing, hooks, and emotional impact
  • Deep familiarity with platform-specific storytelling techniques, trends, and norms
  • Editing skills in Adobe Premiere Pro as well as as in-app tools
  • A journalistic sensibility, with a commitment to accuracy, context, and ethical storytelling
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of media law, fair use, and rights clearance for video production
    • Familiarity with data-driven storytelling or audience analytics tools

Note: This position is represented by the NewsGuild of New York.

Location:

This is a hybrid role. Eligible candidates for the role must be within a commutable distance of TIME’s New York City office [or Washington D.C.] upon hire and may be expected to be physically present as needed.
