Classroom and Video Services Technician
(Technology Support Specialist I)

Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,595 - $4,781 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,595 - $6,694 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

Under the general direction of an appropriate administrator or the leadership of a senior level Information Technology (IT) Professional, the CVS Technician supports the mission of the department and the University by providing services and support in the Classroom and Video Services (CVS) team. Working with other technical staff to assure that our mission is administered and performed in a timely and professional manner to provide training and technical support to the faculty and staff of the campus community. The incumbent serves as a primary IT resource on all assigned topics and for multiple clients. Incumbents at this level work under the supervision of the manager to whom they report and possess the experience of being fully proficient in performing many of the work assignments defined for their position. The employee shall allocate priority and time to the duties mentioned below based upon direction from the manager to whom this employee reports. The manager will communicate these priorities and time allocation at least annually and when necessary.

Key Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of Extron control systems, LCD projection systems, DVD players, audio/video CODEC's, cameras, microphones, audio and video mixers and/or switchers, computers, laptops, monitors, sound systems, multi-point control units (MCU's)
  • Familiarity with materials, methods, and techniques used in the completion of equipment service assignments
  • Adept at using required tools, including computer systems, to accomplish tasks
  • Ability and manual dexterity to physically install and configure equipment, connections, and parts
  • Ability to:
    • Provide technical support on various special projects, which may require some weekend work
    • Analyze equipment problems and determine what repairs are needed
    • Use a variety of test equipment and diagnostic software to ensure system operations
  • A history of regular attendance and positive performance evaluations

Education and Experience

  • An Associate of Arts degree in electronics, telecommunications, or industrial technology or equivalent education, training, and/or directly related experience.
  • Equivalent to one year of journey-level or skilled experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of electrical, electronic and digital media equipment.
    • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
      • Experience with Extron control system design and configuration.
      • Experience with IP based videoconferencing.
      • Knowledge of:
        • The methods, materials, and tools used in the repair, maintenance, and installation of multimedia and videoconference systems.
        • Mac and PC computers and software.
        • Wiring configuration systems.
        • Interpreting schematics and diagrams.
