Job description

Video Producer

The ASU Outreach Hub is a nonprofit organization that supports the outreach and transactional needs of the ASU public enterprise through marketing and engagement solutions that advance the university and strengthen its brand. It specializes in paid media outreach, data-driven insights and outreach to alumni, donors and targeted corporations.

The Video Producer is responsible for planning and implementing all elements of a video project including designing, coordinating, directing, shooting and editing using best-in-class industry techniques and upholding ASU brand standards. Duties will include planning and managing logistics for the film set, securing the rights to intellectual property, and overseeing junior staff's work consisting of filming, post-production, editing and video animation. Working closely with colleagues across the organization and embracing the atmosphere of a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment, the Video Producer will create high-impact visual stories that drive and support integrated cross-platform campaigns, from social media and email to assets used in web designs and stadiums.

What you'll do

  • Plans and produces video and photo projects from concept to completion

  • Provides direction to Videographer to match the creative vision and expectations of the final video

  • Tells stories in many ways, leading with emotion to drive the action and engage the audience through videos, photos and animations, and drives content that connects with the audience; creates all elements necessary to tell the story, including photography, graphics, video and sound, with elements like bumpers, lower thirds, captions and postproduction editing

  • Develops storyboards for complex video projects and collaborates with team members to contribute from their areas of expertise; guides conversation on the best way to tell a story and is trusted by partners to deliver a compelling finished product

  • Thoughtfully interviews subjects to get inspiring answers and doesn't hesitate to guide conversation to tell a great story; owns the interview space

  • Thoroughly plans for video shoots, including developing shot lists, sourcing appropriate B roll and securing locations and necessary use permissions executing within available budget.

  • Constantly learning new techniques, styles, tools and deploying them to meet audience needs; experiments with new techniques and measures

  • Oversees operation, maintenance and safety of video cameras, lighting, sound recording devices, and other production equipment as needed during production

  • Works with colleagues in editorial and design to elevate content and design and ensure adherence to brand standards

  • Edits video, audio, stills and animation using DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Rush

  • Responsible for maintenance of media asset database with logs of photographs, photo releases, audio, video and other media elements

  • Oversees the video/photo studio and ensures it is always working and meeting expectations

  • Works with outside vendors as necessary

  • Responsible for selecting, hiring, training, and evaluating all direct reports in area of responsibility

What you'll need

  • Advanced skill in operating Canon DSLR video cameras (or similar) and using other production related gear, including tripods, lighting, portable audio recorders, and other production related equipment

  • Advanced post-production editing skills in the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Rush, Audition, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Lightroom and Audition)

  • Basic location sound recording and sound editing skills

  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone.

  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of professionalism when working with executives, senior leadership, donors and students, owning the situation, and directing video and photo shoots

Relevant qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Video Production or Journalism with a video production emphasis

  • Three (3) years of video production experience in a hands-on environment

  • Evidence of a portfolio showcasing video capabilities

Preferred education and experience

  • Experience in a marketing or advertising agency or in-house marketing

Preferred skills and abilities

  • Knowledge of Wrike project management systems, or similar

  • Animation and/or motion graphics skills
