Job description

About Gray Media:
Today, we are a growing multimedia company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. We are the nation's largest owner of top-rated local television stations and digital assets serving 117 full-power television markets that collectively reach approximately 37% of US television households. The portfolio includes 80 markets with the top-rated television station and 100 markets with the first and/or second highest rated television station in average all-day ratings across 116 of such markets that were measured by Nielsen in 2025. We also own the largest Telemundo Affiliate group with 47 markets and Gray Digital Media, a full-service digital agency offering national and local clients digital marketing strategies with the most advanced digital products and services. Our additional media properties include video production companies Raycom Sports, Tupelo Media Group, and PowerNation Studios, and studio production facilities Assembly Atlanta and Third Rail Studios.
About KOLN:
Why You'll Love It Here:
- Make a real impact: In Lincoln, we're more than just a station; we're a community staple.
-You'll see the direct result of your work every single day, with 10/11 being the top-rated, most trusted news station in the Capitol City.
- Innovation-first culture: Gray Media is leading the way in digital and streaming integration. You won't just be producing "old school" TV; you'll be building the future of media.
- A team that has your back: We work hard, we move fast, and we support each other. You'll be part of a newsroom that values your voice and your growth. Whether you want to stay at 10/11 for years to come or connect with recruiting managers for one of the more than 100 Gray Media stations, we are invested in helping your career take off.
Job Summary/Description:
Do you have a genuine interest in local and national news? Do you thrive on the adrenaline of a breaking story and the challenge of building the puzzle of a two-hour show that helps people start their day? We're looking for a Morning Newscast Producer at KOLN who understands that morning TV isn't about "the news," it's about utility, weather, and being the trusted voice that helps Lincoln wake up and get moving. Whether our audience is watching 10/11 This Morning on the TV in their living room or catching updates on their phone, you'll be the architect of their morning.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
What You'll Do:
- Stack with purpose: Build and manage a fast-paced, two-hour morning block that prioritizes what viewers need most: weather, breaking news, and the "why it matters" of the day's top stories.
- Drive news judgment: Decide when to send a reporter to a scene and when to pivot, balancing local impact with the national stories everyone will be talking about at the water cooler.
- Own the booth: Lead the control room with confidence, making real-time decisions during breaking news and ensuring a seamless, high-energy broadcast.
- Craft "wake-up" writing: Use your sharp writing skills to turn standard scripts into engaging, conversational storytelling that grabs attention (even before the caffeine kicks in).
- Integrate digital-first: Ensure our coverage doesn't stop at the TV screen-pushing breaking updates to our digital platforms and streaming apps to meet our audience where they are.
- Collaborate and spark: Work closely with anchors, reporters, and the weather team to create a cohesive, energetic environment that makes viewers feel like part of the family.
Qualifications/Requirements:
What You Bring:
- A self-starter mindset: You don't wait for a meeting to start the day or a manager to direct you.
- You're a proactive decision-maker who can work independently and own your show from start to finish.
- Killer news judgment: You know the difference between a "good story" and a "breaking news emergency," and you have the confidence to make the call in the heat of the moment.
- A news junkie heart: You have a deep interest in both local and national news and a natural curiosity to find the stories that truly impact our community.
- Relevant experience: You have a background in local news producing-whether that's a year in a professional newsroom or leading the charge at a high-level college station. We value talent and "scrappiness" as much as years on a resume.
- Calm under pressure: When the breaking news alert hits at 5:00 AM, you're the one who stays cool, keeps the team focused, and gets the story on air.
- Digital fluency: You understand that "multi-platform" isn't a buzzword-it's how we live.
- You're comfortable writing for the web and social alongside your scripts.
- Urgency and empathy: You move fast because the news moves fast, but you never lose sight of the people behind the stories.
- Tech- experience: familiarity with camera operation, video editing, and rundown software is great. KOLN uses Sony & JVC cameras, Edius for video editing, and ENPS as a rundown system. Training will be provided.
