Punchbowl News’ primary focus is breaking news about power, the nation’s political leadership and explaining to our audience of political junkies how Washington works. We produce (at least) three newsletters each day, weekly policy newsletters, a daily podcast, dozens of events and more across our growing product suite.


Punchbowl News’ theory is that power in Washington emanates from the Capitol – and that’s the center of our focus. Our audience includes members of Congress, high-ranking members of the Trump administration, lobbyists, top-level reporters, media executives, Wall Streeters, tech and Hollywood executives and everyday political fans.

Job Summary: Punchbowl News is hiring a Director of Video to lead our growing video department across both editorial and business.


This person will help develop and oversee execution of our long-term video strategy, which touches everything from our weekly YouTube show, Fly Out Day, and daily podcast to our editorial events and marketing and brand campaigns.


The ideal candidate has director-level management experience, is proficient in video media across platforms and possesses strong news judgment for what’s going to break through in Washington. This person will thrive in a startup-oriented newsroom and be able to easily collaborate and coordinate across both editorial and business teams.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee production of Fly Out Day, the Daily Punch, short-form video and related products
  • Develop and lead execution of a long-term video strategy that aligns with our current product suite and brand
  • Quickly capitalize on breaking news moments and adapt for video each week
  • Recognize ways to elevate our brand through visual marketing opportunities
  • Work with our senior management to ensure cohesion across video offerings


Qualifications:

  • 7-10+ years of video production experience
  • At least two years of newsroom management experience
  • Expert in visual media for newsgathering and reporting
  • Proficient in various video and social media platforms
  • Strong familiarity with Capitol Hill and Washington storylines and key players
  • Can quickly adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing political environment


Compensation and Benefits: The salary for this role is in the range of $150,000 - $165,000. Final compensation will be based on scope, work experience, and relevant skills.
