This position is ECB status - requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings.Job Summary: The Senior Neurodiagnostic Technologist performs advanced diagnostic services utilizing a variety of equipment and prepares the continuous video-electroencephalography (cvEEG) studies for physician interpretation.This role collects and maintains patient data necessary for physician reference, reviews and analyzes data, flags activity of concern, and reports critical findings.
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED. Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) Program.5 years of training and experience in a neurodiagnostic setting including 3 years in an ICU or cvEEG monitoring unit, in lieu of graduation from NDT Program and certification may be considered.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Certification as a Registered Electroencephalographic Technologist (R.EEG T.) and certified Long Term Monitoring Technologist (CLTM) from American Board of Registered EEG Technologists (ABRET), preferred.
Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience in a neurodiagnostic setting including 3 years in an ICU or cvEEG monitoring unit.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office as might be used in the preparation of correspondence and reports. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to integrate the analysis of data to discover facts or develop knowledge, concepts, or interpretations. Proven ability to recognize and respond to critical findings. Shown ability to troubleshoot and eliminate artifacts and advise technical staff in departmental concepts.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Performs continuous monitoring, intermittent monitoring or retrospective reviewing. Carries out scanning, documentation, and annotation of ictal, interictal, and paroxysmal events on cvEEGs, in an acute care, ICU, or Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU). Writes technical reports and detailed descriptions of electroencephalogram (EEG) patterns, seizure semiology, radiologic findings, mapping of ictal and interictal abnormalities, and selection of EEG samples. Maps interictal and ictal patterns and creates permanent file clips which represent findings. Performs archiving maintenance, marks and edits significant clinical or electrographic events according to established policies and procedures. Advises technical staff of corrections needed to enhance the quality of ongoing studies. Documents patient events and pertinent history into the patient's record; records if any impairment of consciousness is present. Troubleshoots and ensures the digital video EEG system is recording correctly and is properly maintained. Carries out neurological diagnostic studies consisting of EEGs, Evoked Potentials, Transcranial Dopplers, cvEEG application and monitoring; may also be called upon to assist physician during EMG procedures.
Decision Making: The carrying out of non-routine procedures under constantly changing conditions, in conformance with general instructions from a supervisor.
