Job description

We are seeking experienced Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI) and Visual Welding Inspectors (VWI) to support a large-scale construction project in Minneapolis. These roles are responsible for ensuring welding quality, compliance, and performance across process piping and structural steel operations. The ideal candidates will have strong inspection experience, technical expertise, and the ability to uphold strict quality and safety standards.


What You'll Be Doing
  • Inspect root, fill, and cap welds to ensure quality and compliance
  • Perform inspections on process piping and structural steel welds
  • Identify weld defects including cracks, porosity, undercut, and other quality concerns
  • Verify dimensions, joint preparation, and material compliance
  • Maintain welding logs and documentation to track welder performance and quality trends
  • Support welder retraining efforts and recommend corrective actions when needed
  • Utilize inspection tools such as bridge cam gauges, fillet gauges, calipers, steel rules, and borescopes
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure adherence to welding specifications and safety requirements
  • Complete documentation in accordance with project quality standards

What We're Looking For


Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI)
  • Current AWS CWI Certification required
  • AWS B31.1 and D1.1 certifications required
  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on welding experience
  • Experience inspecting stainless steel process piping and/or structural steel welds
  • Familiarity with GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes
  • Experience with UT (Ultrasonic Testing) and MT (Magnetic Testing)
  • Ability to manage welding performance records and quality tracking


Visual Welding Inspectors (VWI)
  • Minimum 3 years of visual welding inspection experience
  • Experience inspecting stainless steel piping, HDPE, PPR, and/or structural steel welds
  • Ability to review welds for conformance to WPS requirements
  • Familiarity with weld defect identification and documentation
  • AWS, CWB (CSA), CSWIP certifications are a plus
  • Prior NDT experience is preferred

Preferred Qualifications
  • Industrial construction project experience
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong understanding of welding codes, specifications, and quality standards

Schedule
  • Approximately 50 hours per week
  • Overtime available as project needs require

Compensation & BenefitsCertified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • $50.00 - $55.00 per hour
Visual Welding Inspector (VWI)
  • $40.00 - $45.00 per hour

Traveler Package
  • Travelers are welcome!
  • $125 per day per diem available for qualified travelers
