Job description

Pebble Beach Retail is seeking an experienced Buying and Merchandising leader to define and execute the strategy for its multi-location retail business. Reporting to the Vice President of Retail, this role will lead a team of six and oversee all product categories, including men's and women's golf apparel, equipment, accessories, gifts, and lifestyle merchandise.

This leader will shape both long-term merchandising vision and near-term opportunities, driving assortment strategy across 17 retail locations-including five Pro Shops, a Kids Shop, Gift Shop, multiple lifestyle stores, a new Ralph Lauren boutique, and eCommerce. The role is responsible for building strong vendor partnerships, identifying growth opportunities, and delivering compelling assortments that drive profitability.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in high-growth environments and a proven ability to lead with clarity, vision, and accountability. This individual will inspire and challenge the team to innovate, while demonstrating strong critical thinking, decisive leadership, and the agility to succeed in fast-paced, resource-constrained, and ambiguous settings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

MERCHANDISING:

  • Partner with the VP of Retail to develop and execute the merchandising strategy across all product categories
  • Lead high level assortment planning, including category architecture, SKU productivity, pricing strategy, and seasonal product mix.
  • Work cross-functionally with visual, shops, warehouse and eCommerce teams to ensure alignment on product launches, inventory flow, and sales performance
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors
  • Strong product sensibility with a deep understanding of the market, future trends, and consumer insight.
  • Lead merchandising strategy for Pebble Beach events; AT&T Pro Am, Concours d'Elegance, the U.S. Open and other.

FINANCIAL ACCUMEN:

  • Collaborate closely & often with the Retail Finance Manager to align on Buying, Planning, Pricing and Inventory strategies.
  • Manage the Open to Buy process with meticulous receipt and inventory discipline
  • Analyze the business to identify opportunities and liabilities, provide receipt/sales monthly projection insights, and deliver margin improvement strategies.
  • Build assortment strategies that align with topside revenue, margin, and inventory strategies.
  • Create and conduct cross category business reviews for market appointments.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills are required for this role.

TEAM LEADERSHIP

  • Lead, train, and develop a team of Buyers and Assistant Buyers
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience mentoring and developing high-performing teams

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 8-10+ years Buying Experience with direct responsibility managing $25M+ in annual revenue
  • 5-7 years' experience leading a team. 2+ of those years leading a team of managers.
  • Proven track record of delivering financial results
  • Experience in multi-brand environments of scale and multiple stores.
  • Experience building an Ecommerce assortment strategy
  • Highly analytical and strategic with strong problem-solving and negotiation skills
  • Preferred experience working in a lifestyle apparel and accessories, focused on premium and high-quality products. Experience in Green Grass is ideal, not required.
  • Strong communication skills as well as negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
