The Department of Atmospheric Sciences in the University of Utah is seeking an Electronics Technician to assist with research projects related to air quality in Utah's urban environment. The role will include operations management to maintain real time data availability, quality assurance reviews to maintain station reliability, and data analysis to identify and improve air quality measurements and understanding.
Duties will include the design, maintenance, scheduling, and deployment of meteorological and air monitoring instrumentation on existing mobile and fixed-site platforms. The role will support the design and growth of the mobile network and identify opportunities to improve the systems and tools used for real time displays and data analysis.
This is a full-time, campus-based role that requires frequent site visits to third-party manufacturing sites and depots to complete inspection and maintenance work following all University of Utah and third-party safety guidelines. Field work will be completed year-round in urban, outdoor, warehouse and lab environments.
Creativity, reliability, and resourcefulness will be required to maintain operational systems. Coordination and communication with multiple research groups and personnel will be necessary.

Responsibilities
Plan and lead site visits to repair and troubleshoot sensor issues. Document changes made to infrastructure and repair/calibrate/test/certify sensors in the lab.
Inventory management, purchasing, and tracking assets through University of Utah financial systems.
Identify data gaps, reporting issues, quality control items and communicate strategies to address deficiencies. Coordinate regular communication between internal research groups and external vendors to generate solutions.
Data analysis, collection, display and reporting of significant events and long-term findings from University of Utah measurement systems. Incorporate additional data from private, public, county, state, and federal monitoring programs.
Assist with education, outreach, mentoring and training of students and faculty.

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).

Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:

Electronics Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience.

Electronics Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
Preferences
Familiarity with meteorological and/or air quality instrumentation. Campbell Scientific data loggers and software experience are preferred, either through professional experience or academic coursework.
Advanced degrees, scientific programming language(s) (Python, R, Matlab) and computer related skills (networking, Linux) are beneficial.
Bachelor's Degree in an environmental or engineering field, OR a combination of 2 years' work experience with field or laboratory equipment that requires electrical, mechanical or instrumentation skills.
Familiarity with meteorological and/or air quality instrumentation. Campbell Scientific data loggers and software experience are preferred, either through professional experience or academic coursework.
Communication skills to work independently and with diverse teams within and external to the University of Utah.
Advanced degrees, scientific programming language(s) (Python, R, Matlab) and computer related skills (networking, Linux) are beneficial.
Capacity to lift 50 lbs.
Valid Driver's License.
