Job Overview:
The Vice President, Risk & Safety reports directly to the General Counsel, and is responsible for designing, establishing, and leading the Risk Management And Safety functions for Vestis Uniform Services/Canadian Linen, which includes, but is not limited to the following:
  • Identifying and evaluating risks related to the organization and its operations,
  • Implementing ways to minimize and control the impact of those risks.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
  • Procuring, negotiating and managing complex insurance policies (for example, General Liability, Auto Liability, Property and Casualty, Cyber Liability, Environmental Pollution. Errors and Omissions, Directors and Officers Coverage, and Employment Practices Liability),
  • Strategic management of claims and litigation in a manner consistent with state and federal regulations, existing legal guidelines, and communicating the status and results to the company in appropriate accounting and financial terms.
  • Responsible for managing relationships with multiple insurance carriers at a high level, reviewing contractual insurance and indemnification provisions, and actively working to identify risks and countermeasures across the business in all areas of operation.
  • Conducting and evaluating actuarial assessments regarding claims history, financial performance, reserve accuracy, and all associated claim financial performance metrics for the purposes of advising the business on financial disclosures related to SEC regulations.
  • Strategic management of loss control programs covering property loss engineering, location valuation, business interruption planning/valuation, disaster mitigation planning, and protection of team members.
  • Management of health and safety programs, using regulatory compliance as a minimum standard, to reduce the frequency and severity of injuries to employees on a proactive basis.
  • Direct involvement in the leadership of the operational side of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), including management control development and execution for the organization.
  • Leadership of transportation safety programs to minimize risk associated with fleet operations and driver performance.
  • Responsibility for DOT compliance functions for the organizations including driver qualification, D&A testing, hours of service, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Oversight and leadership of the company's vehicle telematics program, including data analysis, system management, and any future advances in that space.
  • Oversee environmental compliance and sustainability programs, ensuring adherence to environmental laws, regulations, and corporate sustainability goals
  • Champion sustainability initiatives, including ESG, that reduce the environmental impact of company operations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Strong experience with all types of commercial insurance lines covering application, underwriting, negotiation, collateralization, and management of issued policies.
Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations and advanced health and safety practices, including strategic behavioral based safety program development and management.
Deep knowledge of air, water and waste laws and regulations and familiarity with environmental management systems
Knowledge of building engineering, fire protection systems, roof design, electrical systems, and other elements related to property insurance programs.
Deep understanding of claims processes, jurisdictional variations, and associated strategies.
Superior strategic, critical thinking, problem solving, and root cause identification skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; active listening skills.
Demonstrated experience with advanced data analysis for performance measurement and program diagnosis.
Highly organized with a natural inclination for planning strategy and tactics.
Acute business acumen and understanding of organizational issues and challenges.
Ability to develop and execute complex project management, including experience with large-scale organizational change efforts.
Demonstrated decision-making and leadership capabilities.
Risk finance knowledge regarding the impact of claim expenses and insurance programs on company financials.
Understanding of contractual indemnification and liability transfer processes through contract management.
Knowledge of ERM frameworks, SOX obligations, and other corporate governance requirements/theories.
Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations and driver management.
Experience with advanced vehicle telematics systems, their deployment, oversight, and analytics capabilities.
Experience/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a science-related discipline
  • Master's Degree (in a relevant field) preferred
  • Significant experience managing all relevant duties, and demonstrating the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities at an executive level within a public company.

License Requirements/Certifications:
  • Certifications in Safety or Environmental process management are advantageous

Working Environment/Safety Requirements/Physical Requirements:
  • Up to 25% travel
  • Hybrid work schedule / environment (remote/office)
