ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:
The CEOs of Indiana Corporate Partnership, together with the supporting CICP Foundation, was formed in 1999 to bring together the chief executives of Central Indianaโ€™s prominent corporations, foundations and universities in a strategic and collaborative effort dedicated to the regionโ€™s continued prosperity and growth. CICPโ€™s mission is to transform the economy of Indiana in order to create a sustainable prosperity and quality of life for our citizens and future generations.
To advance this mission, CICP sponsors five key talent and industry sector initiatives, Agrinovus Indiana, Ascend Indiana, BioCrossroads, Conexus Indiana and TechPoint, each of which addresses challenges and opportunities unique to its respective area: agbiosciences, talent and workforce development, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and logistics and technology. CICP also sponsors strategic initiative AnaltyixIN. In addition to its branded and strategic initiatives, CICP has spearheaded a number of strategic projects that are advancing the growth of Indianaโ€™s economy and successfully incubated and launched the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute and 16 Tech Community Corporation.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The Vice President of Financial Operations provides leadership and oversight for CICP's financial operations and leads an experienced accounting team supporting CICP and its branded and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the President amp; CFO, the VP of Financial Operations is responsible for maintaining strong financial stewardship, controls and compliance while continuing to develop a proactive, efficient and solutions-oriented finance function.
The VP of Financial Operations must enjoy managing a capable team and have experience working in a fast-paced and complex environment and working with financial systems. This position establishes and implements policies and practices to ensure operational effectiveness and fiscal responsibility, while upholding the regulatory and compliance standards at state and federal levels. To be successful in the role the ideal candidate will demonstrate the technical skills required for the role while being a great people manager and leader.
The ideal candidate combines strong financial and technical expertise with excellent people leadership, sound judgment, adaptability and relationship-building skills. The VP must recognize when precision and rigor are essential while also knowing when efficiency, responsiveness or a different approach will produce a better organizational outcome.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Operations Leadership and Oversight
  • Develop an understanding of initiative strategies, operations, funding models and financial needs to anticipate issues and opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with CICP and initiative leaders to establish clear expectations, processes and timelines for team support.
  • Provide financial analysis, guidance and recommendations that enable organizational leaders to make informed business decisions.
  • Help the accounting team balance strong financial stewardship and compliance requirements with responsiveness, flexibility and practical business solutions.
  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends in order to assist the CEO, President and CFO, the branded initiatives, the board and other senior executives in performing their duties.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's accounting function and performance at the direction of the President and CFO.
  • Evaluate the need for new technology to meet the organization's financial data processing, control, and reporting requirements.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism that includes the minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs.
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
  • Continual improvement of the budgeting process with the Director of Accounting.
  • Lead the implementation of strategic priorities pertaining to the accounting function.
  • Optimize the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash position.
Team Leadership and Development
  • Lead and develop an experienced accounting team by establishing clear priorities, expectations, ownership and accountability while providing team members with the autonomy and support necessary to successfully own their responsibilities.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting team. Evaluate the team structure and the efficiency and effectiveness of the group, while developing team capabilities, strengthening cross-training and knowledge sharing, while creating meaningful opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibility.
  • Engage other members of the shared services team to facilitate cross department collaboration that ensures that all accounting, IT, HR and administrative solutions positively support CICPโ€™s goals.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and goals, assign responsibilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance reviews, and administer salary adjustments.
  • Act as liaison, problem solver and facilitator. Improve upon existing approaches by seeking opportunities to creatively transform current practices into innovative solutions.
  • Lead ongoing efforts to simplify, automate and improve accounting processes, systems and workflows.
  • Create structure, priorities and appropriate protected time for continuous-improvement projects.
  • Evaluate accounting systems and technology and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, accessibility of information and internal controls.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary manual processes, improve consistency and strengthen cross-coverage.
Grants and Funding Contracts Management
  • Collaborate with development and fundraising teams to support financial sustainability efforts through grant applications, donor relations, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Monitor financial compliance according to grant terms.
  • Assist branded initiative CEOs program directors and/or managers with the preparation of budgets for funding applications.
  • Provide appropriate leadership and oversight of contract administration and procurement processes.
  • Support and guide team members responsible for contract and procurement activities, helping ensure processes are efficient, consistent and appropriately controlled.
  • Partner with organizational leadership and external advisors as appropriate to identify and address contractual, financial and operational risks.
Risk and Compliance Management
  • Oversee the organization's financial operations and required compliance activities, including annual financial statement audits and tax return filings.
  • Identify and manage financial risks, implement policies and procedures to safeguard assets, and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements, consulting with external auditors to ensure the regular audits are conducted. Training and development and performance management.
  • Oversee the preparation of all supporting information for the annual audit and liaise with the external auditors as necessary to ensure accuracy of audited financial statements.
  • Approve all final drafts of the audit, 990 informational, for-profit tax and foreign tax withholding returns and budgets prior to submission.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in emerging accounting standards, government guidelines, and relevant tax laws and trends, communicating and participating in implementation of necessary changes, as appropriate.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall financial operation and effectiveness of the organization.
  • Along with the VP of Business Operations, maintain internal controls and participate in process improvement efforts to strengthen the organizationโ€™s compliance and increase efficiency.
  • Monitor the reliability of control systems.
  • Identify elements of financial risk.
Other duties and special projects as assigned by the President and CFO.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masterโ€™s degree in finance, accounting, or related field preferred. CPA, CFA, CMA or relevant professional certification is required
  • At least ten years of financial experience in progressively responsible leadership positions
  • Demonstrated success leading and developing experienced, high-performing professionals while increasing their ownership and independence.
  • Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills
  • Proficient in communicating and interacting with various stakeholders from different backgrounds and perspectives
  • Experience in working with non-profit organizations and 501(c)3 / 501(c)6 structures and requirements preferred
  • Superior planning, organizational, project management, time management and record-keeping skills with attention to and memory for details
  • Proven levels of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency, community service and results-orientation
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, interpersonal skills, and good judgment
  • Ability to establish clear priorities, expectations and accountability without unnecessarily centralizing decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience leading process improvement, automation or financial systems initiatives.
  • Strong relationship-building and consultative skills, with demonstrated ability to serve as a proactive financial partner to operational and executive leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen to and incorporate perspectives different from one's own and to involve employees in decisions affecting their work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to include grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Ability to be flexible and function well in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, including ability to be proactively embrace growth and change
  • Ability to use independent judgement and good discretion/ decision making skills
  • Experience with Sage Intacct a plus
  • Extensive experience with MS Office suite
