Shape the future of the YMCA of Central Ohio as VP of Membership & Programs- leading strategy, teams, and community impact.
Job Description
The Vice President of Membership and Programs ensures successful operations of Community Centers in the areas of membership, center programs, volunteer recruitment, staff supervision, community relations, collaborations, budgeting, and financial results. In partnership with co-leaders and the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President supervises, develops and implements a full range of programming, services, partnerships, and community outreach to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding service to all members, program participants and partners. This position provides direction, measurement and accountability for Association initiatives within the YMCA's operational framework, member/participant engagement strategies and member/participant retention strategies. The Vice President also provides leadership and counsel to the centers regarding programming best practices, membership initiatives, and community connections.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in operations management, human services, business or social services, or equivalent in experience and education combined.
  • Eight or more years of progressive professional experience with managing multiple product lines and services, and multi-location operations. YMCA or non-profit experience preferred.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader certification preferred; if not certified, should obtain certification within 2 years.
  • Passionate belief in the Y's cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.
  • Experience developing effective teams which deliver organization-wide services and effective end-user member services.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism is expected from our staff.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.

Essential Functions
  • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • Build and implement strategy towards growth and development in membership and assigned program areas. This includes communication of strategy and participant, revenue goals to all center leadership teams. Takes action with center leadership when targets are missed to develop action plans for correction.
  • Works alongside center leadership and staff to assure sound operations in membership and programs. Provides leadership and direction to the centers by coaching direct reports and other executives, and by providing overall direction to the center program areas.
  • Assists executive directors and program directors with their budget process / performance and strategic plan implementation. Takes quick action to remedy concerns and pivot operations, when needed.
  • Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses are controlled. Takes action, when necessary, to ensure that the YMCA is staying on target of key financial objectives. Partners closely with the CFO to ensure that the YMCA's financial performance is in line with Association targets and goals.
  • Builds intentional relationships with other Business line leaders to produce a culture of support, trust and a cohesive approach towards working together to achieve association goals, including the development of Executive Directors.
  • Has the responsibilities of growing and developing cause-driven leaders through a culture of coaching, professional development plans and clear goal setting. Provides leadership to various assigned groups and teams to ensure that YMCA leaders are on a path towards meeting their career objectives.
  • Ensures center directors have a clear understanding and plan for the annual campaign. Provides training and leadership in these areas, as necessary.
    Ensures the highest levels of safety and performance for all center operations while looking to serve the whole community and meet the mission of the YMCA.
  • Stays connected and keeps our YMCA at the cutting edge of best practices, program relevancy and YMCA excellence. Monitors key results areas and provides effective management by anticipating problems and taking early corrective action.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures related to abuse risk management, while reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors. Complies with all procedures related to supervision of you and follows the YMCA's training and reporting requirements.
