Job Description:
Overview
The Associate Vice President, Landscape Architecture provides strategic and operational leadership for the landscape architecture practice, overseeing complex project portfolios, strengthening client relationships, and supporting business growth initiatives. This role guides multiple teams and project managers, promotes technical and design excellence, and contributes to firm-wide leadership, mentorship, and long-term planning initiatives.
Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic planning and operational oversight for landscape architecture projects, teams, and practice initiatives.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent projects and project teams, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, quality, and profitability goals.
  • Guide and support Project Managers and senior staff in project execution, client management, staffing coordination, and problem resolution.
  • Build, maintain, and expand relationships with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders; serve as a senior advisor on key projects and pursuits.
  • Support business development efforts through client engagement, proposal strategy, presentations, contract negotiations, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on practice growth strategies, staffing plans, resource allocation, and operational priorities.
  • Ensure technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and consistency in design quality across multiple teams and projects.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, knowledge sharing, and career development support to project managers and other team members.
  • Mentor emerging leaders and support succession planning initiatives within the practice.
  • Monitor project performance metrics and support financial management efforts, including forecasting, utilization, and risk management.
  • Foster collaboration across disciplines to support integrated project delivery and client service excellence.
  • Represent the firm at industry events, professional organizations, conferences, and community engagements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, project delivery, and team performance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field.
  • Registered Landscape Architect (R.L.A.) required.
  • 12+ years of professional landscape architecture experience, including experience leading complex projects, multidisciplinary teams, and client relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple project managers, project teams, and large or complex project portfolios.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, business development, and operational management skills.
  • Proven ability to build client relationships, develop new business opportunities, and support long-term market growth.
  • Strong understanding of landscape architecture design principles, project delivery practices, and regulatory coordination requirements.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency with landscape architecture design, drafting, visualization, and presentation software platforms.
