Position Overview – Vice President, Accounting

AmeriCU Credit Union is seeking a strategic and experienced Vice President, Accounting to lead and oversee all accounting functions. The individual in this role will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and the development of strong accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.

This executive‑level role serves as a key financial leader, providing strategic insight to senior leadership while mentoring and developing a high‑performing accounting team. The Vice President, Accounting plays a critical role in supporting AmeriCU’s mission, long‑term financial stability, and continued growth.


Key Responsibilities of the Vice President, Accounting:Accounting Operations
  • Direct and manage all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in compliance with GAAP, NYS DFS, and NCUA standards
  • Monitor and manage cash flow, working capital, and financial risk
  • Partner with leadership to drive continuous improvement across all accounting operations
Internal Controls amp; Audit
  • Coordinate and lead internal and external audits
  • Collaborate with external auditors to ensure accurate and timely reporting and compliance
Strategic Financial Leadership
  • Provide strategic financial insight and analysis to senior management
  • Support business planning, budgeting, ALM, CECL, and forecasting initiatives
Team Leadership amp; Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
  • Create an inclusive and high‑performing work environment aligned with AmeriCU’s core values
Organizational Support
  • Support AmeriCU’s mission, vision, and values through leadership and engagement
  • Perform other duties as needed to drive organizational success

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities
