What is a vice president informatics?

A Vice President of Informatics is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of information systems and data analytics within an organization, often in healthcare or technology sectors. They lead teams that analyze data to improve business processes, ensure regulatory compliance, and support decision-making. The role typically involves strategic planning, collaboration with other executives, and staying current with emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge. Vice Presidents of Informatics often have backgrounds in information technology, healthcare, or data science, and strong leadership skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a vice president informatics?

To excel as a Vice President of Informatics, you need deep expertise in healthcare informatics, data analytics, and leadership, typically supported by an advanced degree in health informatics, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, data warehousing, interoperability standards, and certifications like CPHIMS are highly valued. Strategic vision, effective communication, and change management abilities distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for driving data-driven decision-making, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advancing organizational goals in a complex healthcare environment.

As a Vice President of Informatics, you will regularly bridge the gap between clinical staff and IT professionals, ensuring that technology solutions align with healthcare objectives. This involves leading cross-functional meetings, facilitating communication to translate clinical needs into technical requirements, and overseeing the implementation of health information systems. Strong collaboration is essential for advancing data-driven decision-making and achieving organizational outcomes, as you will guide both teams toward shared goals and drive digital transformation projects.

Job description

VP, Chief Architect leads IMO’s enterprise architecture function at the intersection of technology, clinical informatics, data, and AI. Reporting directly to the CTO, the Chief Architect sets architectural direction, advances IMO’s platform and knowledge strategy, and helps position IMO’s clinical knowledge assets as scalable foundations for AI and next-generation products.

The Enterprise Architecture team works closely with Engineering, Informatics, and Product Management to shape solutions, testnew approaches, and address complex technical challenges. Rather than serving as a centralized governance or approval function, the team partners directly with delivery teams to reduce uncertainty, enable informed decisions, and accelerate execution.
