Job description

Job Description

Nordstrom Technology is committed to building the platforms, tools, and developer experiences that empower our engineering teams to move faster and deliver with confidence. The Developer Platform organization owns the foundational capabilities that engineering teams across Nordstrom depend on every day - from CI/CD and developer tooling to platform infrastructure and internal developer enablement.
We're looking for a Technology Portfolio Manager to bring visibility, structure, and strategic rhythm to the Developer Platform portfolio. You will own the operating cadence for a complex, fast-moving portfolio - translating engineering work into clear executive narratives, driving quarterly planning and intake, and ensuring leadership has the information they need to make smart, timely decisions.
You'll partner closely with engineering leads, product managers, and senior stakeholders across PND and the broader Technology organization. If you thrive at the intersection of strategy, operations, and communication - this role is for you.
A Day in the Life...
Portfolio Planning & Quarterly Rhythm

  • Own the Developer Platform portfolio planning process end-to-end, including intake, prioritization, capacity planning, and quarterly commitment alignment across engineering teams.
  • Partner with engineering leads and product managers to translate team-level work into a coherent portfolio view - surfacing dependencies, sequencing tradeoffs, and flagging risks before they become surprises.
  • Maintain and evolve the operating cadences (standups, monthly program reviews, planning sessions) that keep teams aligned and leadership informed.

Visibility & Executive Communication

  • Develop and own portfolio status communications for VP and SVP audiences, including Ops Review content, monthly dashboards, and ad hoc briefings.
  • Translate complex technical programs into clear, plain-language narratives that give leadership confidence in portfolio health - and flag when attention is needed.
  • Establish and maintain portfolio reporting standards, including status indicators, risk registers, and milestone tracking, so stakeholders always have an accurate, up-to-date picture.

Intake & Governance

  • Manage the Developer Platform intake process - evaluating incoming requests, coordinating triage with engineering and product leads, and maintaining a prioritized backlog of pipeline work.
  • Ensure new work is properly scoped, resourced, and connected to strategic priorities.
  • Ensure governance frameworks and documentation standards are adhered to and scale with the organization.

Tooling & Process

  • Serve as the primary owner of portfolio tooling for Developer Platform, including Aha! (roadmap and quarterly planning), Jira (epic and initiative tracking), and GitHub (repo and delivery visibility).
  • Use Claude and other AI tools to accelerate portfolio work.
  • Continuously improve how the portfolio is structured, reported, and managed.

You Own This If You Have...

  • 5+ years of experience in portfolio management, program management, or strategic operations supporting engineering or technology organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a complex, multi-workstream portfolio - maintaining the big picture while staying close enough to the details to catch problems early.
  • Experience owning quarterly planning processes, including capacity planning, prioritization, and commitment tracking across multiple teams.
  • Exceptional written communication skills - you can take a dense technical program and produce a VP-ready summary that's clear, accurate, and action-oriented.
  • Strong stakeholder management instincts - you know how to build trust with engineers, product managers, and senior leaders alike, and you're skilled at navigating competing priorities without losing relationships.
  • Proficiency with Aha!, Jira, and GitHub, or comparable portfolio and engineering delivery tools; willingness and ability to become the go-to expert on how Developer Platform uses these tools.
  • Comfort working in ambiguity and a fast-moving environment - you bring structure to unclear situations rather than waiting for someone else to define it.
  • A bias toward action and simplicity.
