Job description

About the Role
This is the most senior finance position in the company, and it sits at the intersection of finance, strategy, and company building. You'll become one of the CEO's closest business partners, helping shape nearly every major capital, operating, and strategic decision the company makes.
You'll own the financial infrastructure that keeps the business healthy - accounting, cash, controls, and reporting across every entity - while helping lead the acquisitions, capital allocation, and financial strategy behind the next chapter of Grit. World-class financial discipline is essential, but this role extends far beyond controllership: you'll help determine where we invest capital, evaluate growth opportunities, improve operating performance, and build the finance organization that supports our next stage of growth.
If you're looking for a narrow accounting role, this isn't it. If you're excited about building an enduring company alongside an entrepreneurial leadership team - with real ownership and influence - we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Own
Strategic Finance & Executive Partnership
  • Serve as the CEO's primary financial advisor and thought partner on capital allocation, forecasting, acquisitions, and the decisions that shape the company's direction.
  • Drive annual planning, long-range forecasting, and company-wide financial strategy.
  • Build financial models that sharpen capital allocation and operational decision-making.
  • Provide clear, concise insight that helps leadership make faster, better decisions.
  • Prepare financial analyses and presentations for the executive team, board, lenders, and investors.
  • Help evaluate pricing, compensation and commission plans, organizational investments, and long-term growth initiatives.

Strategic Growth, M&A & Corporate Development
This is not simply a finance role - you'll play a central role in shaping the future of Grit Companies.
  • Partner with the CEO on acquisition strategy and corporate development.
  • Lead financial modeling, valuation, diligence, quality-of-earnings review, and transaction analysis for acquisitions.
  • Help structure LOIs, purchase agreements, earnouts, seller financing, and post-close economics.
  • Support negotiations with founders, lenders, and strategic partners.
  • Lead post-acquisition financial integration and performance tracking, with repeatable processes to measure the return on completed deals.
  • Evaluate new markets, new service lines, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Build the financial case for investments that create long-term enterprise value.

Corporate Finance, Banking & Capital
  • Own company-wide cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning across entities and the seasonal cycle.
  • Lead all banking and lender relationships, and own investor/lender communication.
  • Manage lines of credit, SBA and commercial debt facilities, covenant compliance (e.g., fixed charge coverage), and refinancing opportunities.
  • Improve working-capital performance across collections, payment practices, and cash conversion.
  • Partner with ownership on capital structure and financing strategy, and develop disciplined processes for evaluating capital expenditures and major investments.
  • Support KYC/ownership-structure requests, inter-company arrangements, and related corporate-finance matters.

Financial Planning & Operational Performance
  • Build forecasting processes across both Mira Home and Grit Marketing.
  • Partner with operations to improve margins, unit economics, productivity, operating leverage, and return on invested capital.
  • Establish consistent profitability reporting by business unit, market, and channel.
  • Develop executive dashboards and KPIs that give real-time visibility into company performance.
  • Improve forecasting accuracy for a business with pronounced seasonality and a large, variable sales workforce.
  • Identify performance gaps, build practical improvement plans with operating leaders, and maximize ROI across the platform.

Accounting & Financial Operations
  • Own all accounting operations across every entity in the platform (parent, operators, and the real-estate holding company): general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, revenue recognition, and month-end/year-end close.
  • Ensure timely closes and GAAP-compliant consolidated financial statements.
  • Maintain accurate multi-entity consolidations, inter-company eliminations, and financial reporting.
  • Strengthen internal controls, financial governance, approval processes, and risk-management practices (including insurance).
  • Oversee tax coordination and audits, and own relationships with external CPAs, auditors, and financial institutions.
  • Build scalable accounting systems and controls that support continued growth.

Systems & Team
  • Own and optimize the finance tech stack with NetSuite at its center - leading the implementation, administration, and ongoing optimization of NetSuite as our core ERP (bringing prior QuickBooks Online experience to the transition), and driving clean, reliable integrations with our payroll and spend platform (Rippling), our revenue system (Salesforce), and our reporting environment (Domo).
  • Automate manual processes and establish standardized, scalable finance workflows and reliable sources of data for decision-making.
  • Continue building a best-in-class finance organization; lead and develop a high-performing team.
  • Evaluate and implement systems that improve reporting, automation, and decision-making.
  • Bring an AI-forward mindset to the finance function - using AI and automation to remove manual effort and free the team to focus on higher-value analysis and decision support.
  • Assess the finance organization's structure and capabilities against the company's current size and future needs, and build a culture of accuracy, ownership, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
Most VP of Finance roles are designed to maintain an existing company. This role is designed to help build one.
You'll work directly with the CEO and executive team, with meaningful influence over acquisitions, capital allocation, operational strategy, and long-term value creation. We move quickly, and we value people who think like owners, make decisions with imperfect information, and enjoy solving complex problems. You won't simply report financial performance - you'll help shape the future direction of the company, with your fingerprints on nearly every major decision it makes. If you're energized by building, negotiating deals, allocating capital, and creating long-term enterprise value, you'll thrive here.
What You'll Bring
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • 8-10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including significant senior-leadership responsibility (VP, Controller, or Finance Director level).
  • Command of both strategic finance/FP&A and accounting/controllership - a build-and-do leader, not delegate-only.
  • Strong technical command of GAAP, consolidated financial statements, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing multi-entity accounting and consolidations.
  • Experience with commercial/SBA debt, covenant compliance, and banking/lender relationships.
  • Experience presenting to executives, boards, lenders, or other sophisticated stakeholders.
  • Advanced financial-modeling and analytical skills, and the ability to translate numbers into clear recommendations.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.

Preferred
  • CPA, CMA, and/or MBA.
  • M&A and corporate development experience - modeling, valuation, diligence, deal structuring (LOIs, earnouts, seller financing), and integration.
  • Experience in a private, owner-operated, or private-equity-backed environment.
  • Experience with a seasonal, commission-heavy, high-headcount workforce (direct sales, home services, or similar).
  • NetSuite experience (implementation or administration) strongly preferred; QuickBooks Online familiarity a plus. Comfort with a modern stack (Domo or another BI tool, Rippling, Salesforce) is valued.
  • Experience scaling a finance function through rapid growth.

How You Work
  • High integrity and absolute discretion - you'll see everything.
  • Owner's mindset: proactive, accountable, and comfortable being the one who has the answer.
  • Clear communicator who can make complex financial matters simple for non-finance leaders.
  • Detail-oriented without losing the strategic picture; equally at home in the ledger and in a boardroom or deal conversation.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving, sometimes-ambiguous environment and brings calm and structure to it.
Compensation & Benefits
Grit offers a competitive executive compensation package, which includes:
  • Base salary of $150k+
  • Semi-annual performance-based incentive
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package: inclusive of health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, with 401(k) matching to support your long-term financial goals.
  • Paid Time Off: generous PTO policy to promote work-life balance and rejuvenation.
  • Executive development and other company benefits

Final compensation will be based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, and the scope of the position.
Grit Companies is building one of the next great home services platforms in America. Today, our platform includes Mira Home, a fast-growing home services operator, and Grit Marketing, one of the largest direct sales organizations in the industry - together operating across dozens of markets with a uniquely entrepreneurial, high-performance culture.
The next five years will include acquisitions, new service lines, new markets, and significant capital deployment. We aren't looking for someone to keep score - we're looking for someone who wants to help shape the outcome.
