Job description

Healing. Teaching. Inspiring. - And Now, Leading the Future of Our EHR.
At The Centers, technology is not an end in itself. It is how we extend care, reduce burden on the clinicians doing the most important work in our community, and build a behavioral health and primary care system worthy of the people we serve. We are looking for a Director of Clinical Informatics who believes that too - and who is ready to lead with the same courage, purpose, and drive that defines everything we do.
This is a senior leadership role at the intersection of clinical operations, health IT, and organizational strategy. It is the right opportunity for someone who is proactive rather than reactive, who leads governance with discipline and transparency, and who sees the emergence of AI in healthcare not as a distant possibility, but as a present responsibility to navigate thoughtfully on behalf of our clinicians and patients.
About The Centers
The Centers is a multi-site behavioral health and primary care organization committed to our mission of healing, teaching, and inspiring. Our work is grounded in five core values - Brave, Belonging, Purpose, We Can and We Will, and Gratitude and Growth - and we expect every leader at The Centers to model and embed these values in everything they do.
The Opportunity
The Director of Clinical Informatics provides strategic and operational leadership for The Centers' Electronic Health Record (EHR) ecosystem, currently operating on OCHIN Epic. This role is accountable for optimizing, governing, and continuously evolving our EHR platform to serve our clinical, operational, and administrative priorities across all service lines.
You will serve as the primary liaison between The Centers and OCHIN Epic, lead the EHR Steering Committee, and own the performance and development of the EHR team - including EHR Specialists and our internal build function. You will also own our clinician EHR experience strategy: reducing documentation burden, improving usability, and increasing provider satisfaction across every service line we operate.
This is a role that rewards initiative. We are looking for a leader who anticipates organizational needs, introduces innovative EHR capabilities, and drives alignment across a complex, mission-driven environment without waiting to be asked.
What You Will Do
Strategic Leadership and EHR Governance
You will develop and maintain a multi-year EHR roadmap aligned with organizational strategy, regulatory requirements, service line growth, and platform evolution. You will lead the EHR Steering Committee with discipline and transparency - ensuring structured governance, prioritized agendas, documented decisions, and clear accountability. You will partner with the SVP of IT on EHR-related technology investment decisions, providing analysis and recommendations rather than problems.
EHR System Optimization and Build Leadership
You will direct the maintenance, support, and optimization of the EHR platform and all integrated systems, with a specific focus on clinician experience and documentation burden. You will lead the internal EHR build function - new department builds, template development, and Masterfile changes - with an emphasis on building internal capability over time. You will also manage the EHR vendor relationship, including upgrades, feature implementations, statements of work, and vendor performance accountability, and oversee EHR security administration in partnership with HR and department leaders.
AI and Emerging Technology
You will identify, evaluate, and advance EHR-related AI and emerging technology capabilities aligned with our clinical and operational priorities. You will develop and execute The Centers' EHR AI adoption strategy - including use case evaluation, piloting, and clear communication of implications for clinical workflows and staff experience. We are not looking for someone who waits for direction on AI; we are looking for someone who introduces opportunities, leads experimentation, and frames the value of emerging tools in the language of our mission.
Clinician Experience and Adoption
You will own the organization's clinician EHR experience strategy, driving personalization at scale and building a formal clinician feedback ecosystem that includes advisory groups, structured rounding, and ongoing feedback loops. You will sponsor and expand the Provider Builder and Super User programs, promote strong clinical representation in EHR design, and collaborate with Training and Operations to embed workflow-first adoption strategies for every new capability or upgrade.
Training and Change Management
You will oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of EHR training programs across all sites and service lines, and lead change management for platform transitions and system changes - ensuring stakeholder readiness and adoption at every level.
Team and Talent Management
You will directly supervise EHR Specialists and may supervise additional build and support staff as the department grows. You will partner with HR on performance management, succession planning, and talent development within the EHR function - building a team that reflects The Centers' values and is equipped to grow with the organization.
What We Are Looking For
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required in Health Information Management, Information Technology, Health Administration, or a related field
  • Master's degree in Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred

Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of EHR leadership experience with demonstrated accountability for governance, optimization, and team management
  • Direct experience with Epic required; OCHIN Epic experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in a community health center, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), or ambulatory behavioral health setting preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of leading cross-functional EHR governance, including steering committee facilitation
  • Experience presenting to and influencing clinical and executive leadership audiences
  • Engagement with EHR vendor user communities, conferences, and emerging technology evaluation

Technical Knowledge
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Epic workflows, build governance, and system administration
  • Understanding of EHR security, access management, Masterfile changes, and department build processes
  • Familiarity with HIPAA, healthcare documentation standards, and regulatory compliance as applied to EHR systems
  • Working knowledge of or active curiosity about AI applications in health IT, including Epic's AI roadmap
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required

How You Lead
We are looking for a Director who leads with executive presence and clarity - someone who frames uncertainty with structured options and a clear recommendation, not ambiguity. You navigate organizational complexity and physician culture with skill and empathy, building trust-based relationships across difference and advancing priorities through influence rather than authority.
You are a situational leader who adapts your approach to the development level of each team member, creates psychological safety, and models the kind of leadership culture you want to see across the organization. You make well-reasoned decisions under ambiguity, take accountability for your recommendations, and escalate with a path forward - not just a problem.
You maintain active working knowledge of The Centers' service lines and their clinical workflows, frame every EHR decision in the language of patient care and clinical operations, and proactively identify EHR implications of service line expansion before you are asked.
You value all people for their unique talents and divergent viewpoints, and you actively encourage practices that support diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence across your team and in every stakeholder interaction.
Our Values in Action
The Centers expects every leader - including this one - to live our values not as language on a wall, but as commitments in daily practice.
  • Brave - Challenge assumptions, speak up about workflow barriers, and support informed risk-taking in AI and technology adoption
  • Belonging - Create psychological safety for EHR staff and value diverse clinical and operational voices in system design and governance
  • Purpose - Connect every EHR decision to our mission of healing, teaching, and inspiring; frame technology choices in terms of patient outcomes and community impact
  • We Can and We Will - Take ownership of EHR initiatives; hold the team and vendor partners accountable while persisting through complexity and setbacks
  • Gratitude and Growth - Actively seek feedback from clinical and operational partners; invest in continuous team development; approach the evolving EHR and AI landscape with curiosity and humility

Working at The Centers
This position follows The Centers' hybrid work model, with on-site presence required to support clinical, operational, and technology needs across our locations. Travel between sites during the workday is required. Occasional attendance at off-site meetings, vendor sessions, conferences, or training events is expected. Work outside of normal business hours may be required to support EHR upgrades, implementations, and urgent operational needs.
Ready to Lead with Purpose?
If you are a strategic EHR leader who is energized by complex, mission-driven environments - and who sees technology as a vehicle for better patient care, not an end in itself - we want to hear from you.
The Centers is an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
