Univision Local Media is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President of News to lead the editorial, operational, and strategic direction of our Miami newsroom and develop a vision and strategy to position Univision 23 as the #1 local news organization in South Florida. The Vice President of News is responsible for setting the long-term vision for the newsroom while delivering exceptional journalism across linear, streaming, digital, social, and emerging platforms. The Vice President will champion innovation, audience growth, operational excellence, and a high-performing newsroom culture that reflects the communities we serve.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, evolving news environment and demonstrates a deep understanding of the South Florida media landscape, including the unique cultural, social, and political dynamics of its diverse Hispanic audience. This leader combines exceptional editorial judgment with strong business acumen and the ability to lead organizational change, drive innovation, and develop high-performing teams.

The Vice President of News provides strategic editorial direction, strong leadership, and ongoing mentorship to empower staff to develop and pitch high-impact stories that deliver compelling, community-focused journalism. The Vice President establishes the department's editorial vision and policies, serving as a trusted leader who anticipates evolving newsroom, digital, and audience trends. Working closely with N+ Enterprise News, and Univision 23 partners, this role fosters cross-platform collaboration to strengthen Univision's trusted, award-winning news brand. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of News.

YOUR DAY-DAY:

  • Provide strategic leadership for the newsroom by establishing and executing the long-term editorial, operational, and business vision aligned with station and company objectives.
  • Lead and inspire a high-performing, multi-platform newsroom culture focused on journalistic excellence, innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous development.
  • Drive audience growth and engagement by leveraging consumer insights, market trends, digital analytics, and emerging technologies to inform content strategies across broadcast, streaming, digital, OTT, and social platforms.
  • Oversee all newsroom operations, including editorial direction, breaking news coverage, investigative journalism, special projects, staffing, resource allocation, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain the News department's operating and capital budgets while ensuring responsible financial stewardship and alignment with business priorities.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain top talent, building a strong leadership pipeline through succession planning, performance management, and employee development.
  • Foster strong cross-functional partnerships with Station Leadership, Corporate News, Sales, Marketing, Digital, Engineering, Operations, Legal, and Community Relations to support strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Represent the station and newsroom with community leaders, industry partners, and key stakeholders, reinforcing Univision's reputation as the leading and most trusted local news source.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, journalistic standards, FCC regulations, and legal requirements while maintaining the highest level of editorial integrity and ethical journalism.

YOU HAVE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Media, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years leading a large, multi-platform newsroom as a News Director, Executive News Director, or comparable senior leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success leading high-performing teams through organizational growth, transformation, and change.
  • Proven experience developing and executing long-term editorial and business strategies that drive audience growth and market leadership.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Extensive experience leading breaking news, investigative journalism, political coverage, and major market events.
  • Deep understanding of audience measurement, Nielsen ratings, digital analytics, streaming metrics, and consumer insights.
  • Strong understanding of digital publishing platforms, social media strategy, OTT, streaming, and emerging content distribution channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across leadership teams and multiple business functions.
  • Exceptional people leadership skills with experience building engaged, inclusive, and high-performing organizations. Track record of continuing to learn evolving trends in the digital industry.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during major breaking news events when required.
