VP & Actuarial Associate Position Title: VP & Actuarial Associate Department: Analytical Services Location: New York, NY Reports to: EVP & Head of Analytics Salary Range: $120K – $300K POSITION SUMMARY The Actuarial Associate is a core member of Holborn's Analytics Department, focused on providing actuarial services that support our clients' success.

The Analytics team includes 18 practitioners including actuaries, catastrophe modelers and solution developers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The primary responsibility of the Actuarial Associate is providing analytical services to support the design and delivery of optimal reinsurance programs. Additionally, the position involves technical services to help clients reach their business objectives in the critical areas such as risk management, profitability, economic capital modeling, and regulators/rating agencies.

In particular, duties include: Use standard actuarial practices to review client experience and exposure and develop a common view of risk with the client. Note that: We use specialized, proprietary tools that enable us to identify trends and loss drivers that might not be obvious on the surface. Our analyses are often presented directly to clients to develop a collaborative understanding of risk to better solve business issues.

This requires a familiarity with common industry exposure rating curves, including but not limited to those provided by Verisk's PSOLD & MILD Estimate pricing and structure reinsurance solutions in alignment with individual clients' risk appetites and budget. Perform customized stochastic analyses in support of assessing portfolio volatility, evaluating capital adequacy, supporting overall risk management strategies, and other ad hoc analysis in support of various client business objectives.

Communicate results to clients in person and with written materials. This includes: Preparing high quality presentation materials Travel to clients could initially be 2-3 times per year, likely more over time Leverage critical thinking to manipulate data into a standard format, interpret model output, and test it for reasonability. Build and maintain specialized tools to further advance our suite of proprietary models. Advanced knowledge of Excel is required, as well as some experience with larger datasets managed using SQL.

Train junior staff and review their work. Assist in training/supporting clients, as well as non‐actuarial colleagues. Develop external relationships with clients in partnership with the broking team. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

At a minimum, candidates must have 10 years of relevant actuarial experience, an Associate level designation in an internationally recognized actuarial society and must be determined to master the responsibilities described above in time. Equally as important, candidates must demonstrate a solid work ethic with the expectation that they will be able to handle multiple assignments concurrently, sometimes as part of a team and at other times as a self‐starter. BA/BS in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, Economics, or equivalent.

Associate level actuarial designation (e.g., ACAS) or higher. 10 years of insurance industry experience, familiarity with reinsurance preferred. Expertise in Excel and proficiency in database management software such as SQL. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Candidates should have a knowledge of broad market dynamics (market cycle, industry trends). Ability to perform queries and manipulate data. Excellent analytical skills with a strong understanding of probability and statistics.

Advanced experience and exposure rating analytic skills. Must be detail‐oriented and possess excellent organizational skills. High level of creativity, ability to devise novel solutions from unstructured problems. Must have the flexibility to adapt to changes in priorities and assignments. Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information and issues. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Advanced knowledge of stochastic simulation / economic capital modeling tools. Must be a team player.

Contract wordings are continuously evolving to stay on top of emerging risks such as cyber, intellectual property, and labor laws. Holborn's Reinsurance Security Committee (a select group of our senior managers across multiple disciplines) meets regularly to review the financial condition of each reinsurer. Each entity is closely monitored for financial and operational performance through meetings with management, rating agency activity and news releases. Our monthly newsletters keep clients informed of any noteworthy changes.

Holborn can provide clients with access to RiskRater®, a proprietary reinsurance pricing engine designed (but not limited) to manage portfolios of mutual insurers. RiskRater® employs a systematic approach to pricing that is consistent across client companies. Smaller companies with sparse rating histories are rated with the support of defined cohorts and compared with industry information to enable a more informed view of risk.

Developed to be nimble and flexible without proprietary software installations, RiskRater® requires only a connection to a centralized database, where all data (present and historical) is stored and archived, allowing access to detailed information for year over year pricing.
