Job description

Scopely is looking for a top-performing Senior Gameplay Designer to join an exciting unannounced project in development in person at our Culver City hub, or remotely within the US or Canada!

Join a team that is early in its journey to build a new F2P Multiplayer Adventure title with World Class IP. You'll design new gameplay abilities, traversal methods, and environmental elements, then tie them all together in compelling encounters that are approachable, creative, and endlessly replayable.

At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing, and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.

What You Will Do
  • Create compelling tools and abilities that empower players in expressive, creative ways.
  • Iterate on and polish our core player movement systems.
  • Design environmental features that serve both as obstacles as well as opportunities in gameplay.
  • Implement encounters for players that can be approached in multiple ways to deliver a robust gameplay sandbox.
  • Partner with other gameplay, content, and level designers to foster player creativity and emergent play.
  • Ensure gameplay appeals to a broad audience while still delivering deep engagement and replayability.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (animation, art, audio, VFX, engineering, UI/UX) to deliver responsive, readable, and impactful gameplay.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven track record designing and shipping gameplay elements (like weapons, hero kits, ability designs, etc.) for a live service.
  • Experience using level design tools to layout encounters in an action-adventure game, with an emphasis on player agency and alternate approaches.
  • Passion for developing action sandboxes that prioritize player expression and creativity.
  • Fluency in how animation, audio, and effects shape the feel of gameplay.
  • Strong thematic sense, able to wrap mechanics in evocative, resonant presentation.
  • Hands-on implementation ability with enthusiasm for building things directly.
  • Systemic and goal-driven design process, with a focus on developing and validating gameplay through playtesting and iteration.
  • Clear communicator and culture leader.
Bonus Points
  • Knowledge of third-person camera design for action games.
  • Mobile design background, especially on mobile games with real-time action.
  • Familiarity with designing for cross-platform games.
  • History of building gameplay to appeal to a broad audience.
  • Experience delivering emergent gameplay via physics.
  • Unity game engine knowledge.
