Job description

Veterinary Medical & Surgical Hospital of Topeka is currently hiring for a Full Time Veterinary Technician/Nurse. Veterinary Technicians need to balance their love and compassion for animals with the practical needs and demands of providing necessary medical care.
Daily task may include:


• Keeping detailed records about an animal's condition and treatments
• Facilitate patient visits
• Performing laboratory testing
• Preparing an animal for surgery
• Administering medications and intravenous fluids
• Dispensing medications to pet owners per the veterinarian's orders
• Assist Surgeon with routine surgeries including, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery and emergency surgery. 
• Sanitizing and maintaining surgical instruments
• Handling and restraining animals for treatment
• Counseling and educating pet owners
• Process admissions and facilitate releases
• Providing grief counseling over the loss of a pet


Qualifications:

• Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Nursing degree from an AVMA accredited program 
• Hold a license within the State of Kansas (or willing to obtain license within 3 months of employment)
• Must have animal handling experience and be able to restrain all species
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds
• Must be able to work successfully as part of a team
• Must have ability to remain composed in stressful and emergency situations
• Must be flexible about working additional hours when necessary
• Excellent organizational, multi-tasking and communication skills are essential
• Must be able to follow detailed protocols as well as neatly and correctly complete paperwork as necessary
• Must have excellent customer service skills

·Computer skills such as AVImark, Microsoft Office and email are beneficial.
