Job description

Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician

Eastern Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Center

At EPVMC, we were built with one goal in mind: to create a place where advanced medicine, collaboration, and patient care come together under one roof. What started as a vision has grown into a 24/7 specialty and emergency hospital, where teams work side by side to provide the highest level of care for our patients and support to one another.

As we continue to grow, our Ophthalmology Department is expanding. We are looking for a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT/LVT/RVT) who thrives in a fast-paced, specialty environment and has a passion for precision, patient advocacy, and advanced ophthalmic care.

About the Role

This is not a routine veterinary nursing position. Ophthalmology combines advanced diagnostics, microsurgical procedures, and specialized patient care. You'll work alongside board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists and anesthesiologists, assisting with everything from routine eye examinations to complex ocular surgeries that help restore comfort and vision.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and diagnostic testing
  • Prepare patients for ophthalmic procedures and surgeries
  • Induce, maintain, and monitor anesthesia for ophthalmic surgical procedures
  • Assist with microsurgical procedures using specialized ophthalmic equipment
  • Perform ophthalmic diagnostics, including tonometry, Schirmer tear tests, fluorescein staining, and ocular imaging
  • Provide exceptional nursing care before, during, and after procedures
  • Educate clients on medications, postoperative care, and long-term management of eye conditions
  • Maintain accurate and thorough medical records
  • Collaborate closely with doctors and team members to ensure outstanding patient care
What We're Looking For
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or RVT required)
  • Strong anesthesia and patient monitoring skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to precision
  • Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced specialty setting
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn advanced ophthalmic procedures and techniques

Experience in specialty or emergency medicine is preferred but not required for the right candidate with a strong foundation and eagerness to learn.

Pay Scale: $25.00 to $28.00/hour

Our Comprehensive benefit package includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with a total company match up to 4%, after 6 months of employment
  • Generous paid time off and flexible scheduling
  • Continuing education allowance and professional development support
  • Mental Health Resources
  • Company paid bonding leave or applicable state provided bonding leave

Perks for Your Pets Too!

Because we know how much your pets mean to you, we offer special benefits designed just for them:

  • Pet Care: Discounts on veterinary services and products
  • Diagnostics: Savings on reference lab testing
  • Nutrition: Discounts on Purina pet foods
  • Insurance: Preferred rates with our pet insurance partner
