Job Title:Veterinary Care Assistant 2 - TempDepartment:Veterinary Medical Center | Large Animal Basic Service

The College of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Medical Center seeks a VeterinaryAssistant to join the Large Animalteam. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in the provision of care toill and injured animals as wellasproviding assistance to clinicians, staff and professional students in the dayto day operations of the Veterinary Medical Center. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Providing basic patient care functions; assisting in the collection of lab specimens such as blood, urine, and feces for testing.
  • Assisting with patient assessment, restraint and treatments; assisting with training student employees in prescribed care of animals.
  • Comforting and caring for hospitalized animal patients; walking patients and providing clean housing, food, and water at all times.
  • Monitoring patients and notifying higher level technician or veterinarian of any unusual changes or symptoms.
  • Transporting patients within the Veterinary Medical Center.
  • Stocking supplies including feed, medical supplies and equipment.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting treatment areas, animals housing units, adjacent areas and supporting equipment following prescribed sanitation procedures and observing rules of epidemiology to prevent spread of disease.
  • Carrying out prescribed bedding; performing dailycleaning of outdoorareas and VMC entrances; cleaning of all animal areas including windows, floors, light covers, ledges, hallways, vents, receiving rooms etc.
  • Notifying supervisor of need for non-routine repairs.
  • Assisting with laundry; providing clerical support when necessary; and other duties as assigned.

The successful candidates will be expected to work 40 hours a weekwith a schedule to be determined by the business unit. This position is subject to a background check prior to starting.

Additional Information:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED. Certification or vocational training may be preferred. 1 year of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

Standing for long periods of time; Pushing/pulling/lifting up to 75 pounds; Exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic diseases; Exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and/or bio hazardous waste.
