Job description

ASME Pressure Vessel Estimator / WelderPosition Summary

We are seeking an experienced ASME Pressure Vessel Estimator / Welder to join our fabrication team. This position is ideal for a highly skilled individual with strong knowledge of ASME pressure vessel codes, shop fabrication practices, welding procedures, estimating, purchasing, and project coordination.

This role combines hands-on fabrication and welding responsibilities with front-end estimating and code documentation support. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in both the office and shop environment and willing to assist with fabrication work as needed.

Candidates must have experience working with carbon steel, nickel alloys, and Hastelloy materials and be proficient in MIG and TIG welding processes.

Basic drug screening and background check are required.

Key ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Project Coordination

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and RFQs for ASME pressure vessel fabrication and repair projects
  • Prepare accurate labor, material, machining, welding, and subcontract cost estimates
  • Interpret ASME code requirements and customer specifications
  • Generate quotations, bid packages, and scope summaries
  • Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and shop personnel to determine project requirements
  • Assist with purchasing materials, consumables, and subcontracted services
  • Support scheduling, production planning, and job costing activities
  • Identify fabrication risks, material requirements, and cost-saving opportunities
  • Maintain project documentation including travelers, weld maps, repair records, and ASME code paperwork

Welding & Fabrication

  • Perform MIG and TIG welding on carbon steel, nickel alloys, Hastelloy, and other alloy materials
  • Fabricate and repair ASME pressure vessels, piping systems, and related components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and isometrics
  • Perform fit-up of shells, heads, nozzles, flanges, and structural components
  • Assist with hydrostatic testing, inspections, and quality control activities
  • Follow approved WPS/PQR procedures and maintain code-compliant weld quality
  • Operate shop equipment including grinders, torches, plasma cutters, forklifts, and positioners
  • Assist in shop operations and fabrication work as needed

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 5+ years of pressure vessel fabrication and welding experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of ASME Section VIII pressure vessel codes required
  • Experience with estimating, purchasing, and code documentation required
  • Proficient with MIG and TIG welding processes
  • Experience working with carbon steel, nickel alloys, and Hastelloy required
  • Ability to read fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications
  • Knowledge of shop math, material take-offs, and fabrication layout
  • Familiarity with QC documentation and code compliance requirements
  • Ability to administer welding tests and evaluate weld quality preferred

Preferred Skills

  • AWS or ASME welding certifications
  • Experience with pressure vessel repair and alteration work
  • Knowledge of National Board inspection requirements
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Leadership or mentoring experience in a fabrication shop environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working in industrial shop conditions
  • Ability to work in heat, confined spaces, and around welding/fabrication equipment
  • Must be able to wear required PPE including respirator, welding hood, gloves, and safety equipment

Work Environment

  • Primarily shop-based fabrication environment
  • Occasional field work or customer site visits may be required
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required based on production schedules
