We are stage agnostic. We invest in seed to venture to growth-stage technology companies, across AI, bio + healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, games, and companies building toward American dynamism. a16z has $100B+ under management across multiple funds.

Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world.

We use enterprise software (AllVue, Anaplan, Salesforce, HazelTree, WorkDay, Tres, and Qval) for efficiency and scale.
  • Facilitate, review, and monitor cash flows to and from investors, portfolio companies, exchanges, custodians, prime brokers, and other counterparties
  • Lead cash, token, stock, and other in-kind distributions, working closely with bankers, brokers, custodians, transfer agents, and internal stakeholders
  • Oversee and manage wiring activity for portfolio investments, trading activity, investor transactions, fund expenses, and other operational needs
  • Review work of Senior and Staff accountants
  • Maintain portfolio tracking reports
  • Monitor all crypto activity, including custody, staking, delegation, sales, and purchases
  • Work collaboratively and efficiently with the team to complete quarterly and annual financial statements, the annual audit, and fulfill tax requirements
  • Prepare all documentation in accordance with SEC guidelines and US GAAP
  • Coordinate with portfolio company counsel and internal General Counsel as necessary
  • Work closely with the Crypto vertical to ensure integration of internally developed software with our existing accounting systems
  • Evaluate current team processes and collaborate with colleagues to enhance them through technology and automation
  • Provide timely assistance with ad hoc reporting requests from limited partners, Crypto vertical and the Investor Relations team
  • Assist with projects as needed

This role requires an in-office presence 2 days a week in our Menlo Park, CA or San Francisco, CA office.

  • Approach issues with a solution-focused lens
  • Work with different investment instruments and strategies
  • Have a strong interest in leveraging AI tools to streamline accounting processes and improve accuracy
  • Work in a very dynamic, fast-paced environment - requirements can change with little notice, and you will need to adapt and be flexible
  • Master venture capital and hedge fund finance from the ground up
  • Take the time to understand our processes and culture, embrace the best parts and recommend changes for improvement
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education experience, with focus in accounting or finance
  • 7+ years of combined public accounting or relevant accounting experience with a deep understanding of partnership accounting, venture capital operations, and hedge fund operations
  • Understanding of various investment instruments such as swaps, futures, and options
  • Able to deal with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV accounting software is a plus

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $216,000 - $252,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
a16z culture
  • We do only first class business and only in a first class way
  • We take a long view of relationships, because we are in the relationship business
  • We believe in the future and bet the firm that way
  • We are all different, we recognize that, and we win
  • We celebrate the good times
  • We do it for the team
