Job description

POSITION SUMMARYThe Lead Engineer serves as a hands-on technical leader, driving the design and delivery of complex, cross-functional initiatives. This role balances advanced technical execution with team mentorship and coordination, ensuring engineering excellence and high-quality delivery across frontend and backend domains.
This role will be on-site in Appleton, WI. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable and maintainable software solutions across multiple technology stacks.
  • Serve as the primary technical owner for complex features, services, or modules.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across the team, ensuring high code quality and adherence to best practices.
  • Partner with product, UX, and architecture to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Lead design reviews, code reviews, and contribute to improving engineering standards and patterns.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and platform teams to ensure operational excellence.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively contribute to hiring and onboarding efforts.
  • Champion accessibility, performance, and security standards across the stack.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in team velocity and quality.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
  • Proven hands-on experience in both backend and frontend engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency in at least one backend language and one frontend framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineers.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, CI/CD pipelines, and system design.

Preferred:

  • Experience influencing technical strategy beyond a single team.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, microservices, and distributed systems.
