About Us
Allied Fire Sales & Service is a Michigan-owned company founded and operated by current and former firefighters. We proudly support fire departments statewide by delivering high-quality fire apparatus, emergency equipment, and responsive service from our Fruitport location. Our team specializes in apparatus sales, custom builds, and full-service support to keep Michigans first responders safe and mission-ready.
Position Summary
We are looking for a skilled Emergency Vehicle Upfitter to join our growing service team. This hands-on role focuses on outfitting fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles to the highest standards. Approximately 75% of your time will be dedicated to installing lighting packages, siren systems, and complete electrical wiring. The remaining 25% will involve fabrication, welding, and the creation/installation of custom parts and assemblies. Key Responsibilities
Primary Duties (75%)

  • Install and integrate emergency lighting packages (roof, grille, dash, rear, scene, and traffic advisor lights)
  • Mount and wire siren systems, PA/intercoms, and control consoles
  • Run and terminate all associated wiring harnesses, switches, relays, and power distribution systems
  • Test and troubleshoot complete electrical systems to ensure reliable operation and compliance with NFPA, DOT, and manufacturer standards
  • Program and configure lighting/siren controllers and flash patterns
Secondary Duties (25%)
  • Fabricate custom brackets, mounting plates, consoles, and vehicle-specific components
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and/or stick welding on steel and aluminum
  • Build and install custom assemblies for equipment storage, pump panels, and compartment modifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and customer specifications
  • Collaborate with the sales and service teams on custom apparatus builds
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
  • Document work performed and maintain accurate installation records
  • Assist with general apparatus maintenance and repairs as needed
  • Represent Allied Fire Sales & Service professionally when interacting with customers and fire departments
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience installing emergency vehicle lighting, sirens, and wiring (preferred)
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Proficient in fabrication and welding (MIG/TIG experience a plus)
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals
  • Working knowledge of 12V DC systems, multiplexing, and CAN-BUS a strong plus
  • Valid drivers license (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in awkward positions, and stand for extended periods
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and safety
  • Fire service background or passion for the fire service is highly valued
